In my opinion, "devolvment" would involve using the unlimited potential of the human mind to be reduced to name-calling over such critical world issues as DNR... but at least I know what my opinion is worth (= zero).

I just watched Fotr and while it's not reference worthy, I'd give it a solid 4 for picture quality only because some scenes looks amazing and others a little soft. Although, I don't know whether to fault the transfer or not. I remember that film looking almost out of focus theatrically and it looks much better here. For that reason, I expect the future extended editions to look the same but add a lot more bonus content and supplements.

This isn't the place for bickering, get a room.
The four or five posters posting the same crap over and over again, your point has been heard. ENOUGH. I wonder if anyone could actually find a piece of relevant information between all this childish back and forth. You stated your opinion, now drop it. Anything else beyond will be considered thread crapping. Best to move along. ![]() Last edited by JasonR; 04-10-2010 at 01:57 AM. |

Thought I'd let this thread cool down for a couple days before posting my thoughts. Overall, I think this set looks great. As expected, Fellowship looks a tad softer than the other two - but still faithful to what I remember from the theater. TTT & RotK looked absolutely stellar to me. Quite often I was in complete awe watching the movies. (FYI, I'm watching on a 46 inch 720p Sony WEGA from 6-7 feet away.)
I'm actually rather glad these were the theatrical cuts. Watching in HD was the perfect way to revisit them, as the added clarity made me feel like I was sitting the theater again. I got all nostaglic watching these and loved seeing many of the original edits (original Shire opening, original ending to the Paths of the Dead scene, music crescendo upon Gimli's "What are we waiting for?" line, among others). Not enough can be said about the audio imo. Nice to have my house shaking to the sound of Middle Earth again. ![]() ![]() I also really like having the trailers in HD now. I can remember obsessively watching each of these over and over as a teenager. Great times. ![]() Last edited by Aragorn the Elfstone; 04-10-2010 at 02:23 AM. |

Ok I must say that I have never written a review for a Blu-ray before and since these are easily my favorite films of all time I thought I would take a crack at it now. I just watched FOTR and my viewing equiptment was a 46" Samsung LCD (Calibrated) and I was sitting about 9 feet from the TV.
Honestly guy's, I don't know what the big fuss was about. I thought FOTR looked really darn good. I thought the colors were vibrant, the black levels were really dark, and for the most part I thought the picture was solid pretty much throughout the entire movie. There were parts that looked very soft. Many part's indoors seemed soft. Rivendell looked soft but I can attribute that to Rivendell being a fairytale kind of place. It just has always had that feel to me. The part that really stood out was the Mines of Moria. That my friends is demo material. Now I wont give a score for PQ because I am no video expert but I was very pleased with what I saw. I am however a audiophile and the audio track on this film was one of the best I have ever heard. I listen on a 7.1 system and all 7 channels were active nearly the entire movie. My new BIC Acoustech PL-200 sub got quite the workout with all the bass throughout the movie. To wrap up my review I will say this to you. FOTR has never looked nor sounded better. Were there soft scenes? Yes there's no denying that but it's always been the softest of the trilogy. Could it have been better? We may never know the answer to that. All I am saying is that I was very pleased with FOTR and since everyone is saying that TTT and ROTK are a lot better then I can only say that I am very excited to watch both of them. I watched FOTR with a smile on my face and with the other two i'll probably be grinning from ear to ear. Now that my review is over I'd like to say a little about these films. I am very protective of these films. These films to me are my safe haven and my escape from everyday troubles. When I watch these I am in a complete other world. In my heart I believe that is what a great film is for. I just appreciate the effort that went in to making them. It took thousands of people to be away from their loved ones for a long time to complete this masterpiece trilogy and for that I am very grateful. I am very thankful to Peter Jackson for taking such care of these films. I know he didn't do it alone and he must have had one hell of a team under him to make this work. I have supported this trilogy monetarily in the theaters, on DVD (both the EE's and the TE's), and now on Blu-ray. I will continue to do so for the next formats to come. I believe this is film making at it's best, and we are damn fortunate that these films were made. Thanks for looking at my review and for those people who read my comments on these films in general I appreciate you taking the time out. Keep supporting these films everyone. They are truly one of a kind. Last edited by Underworld54; 04-10-2010 at 05:05 AM. |

We don't know for sure, but he had never been to Lothlorien before the Fellowship arrived there, so it is safe to assume that he did not travel east over the mountains with his grandfather Orophin. If that is the case, he can be at maximum 6400 years old. Most likely, he is at least "a few" thousand years old.
