According to the Digital Bits, it's true.

I hope by then Warner will be smart enough to provide the titles in highest bit rate video and full HD audio with no extra DNR. Hopefully they'll also be the extended editions.

I don't mind if the appendices aren't included as I'll keep my DVD sets, but if they are converted to Hi-def I'm good with that too

While the graphic indicates coming soon, TheDigitalBits.com indicates that the titles are in fact coming in 2009.

Wow, an actual release date? I'm shocked. But I'm afraid this is going to be a "routine release" that's basically given no care from PJ and co..

I like how every LotR release has been handled carefully and is never wasted. I hope the Blu version is the same.

i think they're going to do a good job on it
PJ said he and warner were working on it in what may of 08?
i think we can trust him to do a great job on it

i expect these to be nothing short of reference quality PQ and AQ movies
i would love for them to become THE reference discs

Yeah, they could be and I hope they come close. PotC: COTBP is as old as the LotR films and is considered reference material so we know age isn't a factor. The PQ on the DVDs don't look too good on my 50' plasma (the SW trilogy actually is clearer than the LotR EE's) but I'm sure they'll look fantastic in hi-def. I also think anyone who wouldn't buy these films because they aren't the EE's is crazy. This is THE trilogy to double-dip on.

definitly agree about the age thing not being a factor
my dvds look ok on my 40" lcd playing on my BX1
my judging by how they look i can imagine them on a 50"

and i also agree about the double dipping
because if they come out when the hobbit comes out, thats another two years
thats a long time to wait to get just the EE versions.
but i'll keep saying it, i want one with seemless branching
i.e. spiderman 2.1

Edit: also i've seen them on my 40inch when they played on TNT HD and they looked pretty good
so the blu-ray should be leaps and bounds ahead of that

Yeah, the DVD's don't look very good. I will double dip, these need to be seen in High Def!
