These movies are less than a decade old. Of course age is not a factor.

Bjorn did some shots of the HD broadcast and down-resed to 480p using MPEG2 at rates that showed no artifacting.

His 480p "home-made" SD signal blew away the commercial DVDs, which were clearly over-filtered for no reason at all since the bit-rate he used was about the same as the commercial discs!

just back mastering on the DVD. The PAL UK SD discs look a lot better than our US DVDs. Of course, the BDs should look better than everything. Hopefully New Line/Warner will really do these justice with full-fidelity transfers.

This would normally go into the european releases forum, so feel free to move it.

This is from a big Swedish gaming/blu-ray retail online store.

I will do a rough translation. The text on the promo says:

"Soon you will be able to see the whole trilogy on blu-ray. A collection with all three movies will be available this spring. Sign up (email) now to get more information about when the product will be available."

I thought this would be interesting info to some.

...Dont kill the messanger.

From this cover art, it looks like the first wave of LotR on Blu-ray will be the theatrical cuts in a single 3-disc case. The case structure will probably resemble Planet Earth and the Spider-Man Trilogy (single case edition).

Heck. If the price isn't too bad I'll probably cave and get the theatricals prior to the ultimate uber-set with the EE versions that will inevitably come out around the time of the Hobbit...

I'll just pretend I'm back in time watching in the theater!

Oh my god thank you. I am so glad I am not the only one who hates these blu-ray books. They are ugly, old-fashioned, and easy scrathed or damaged. What the hell is Warner thinking - give us a real blu transparent case please !
