Ok, so I've read some comments about how the Balrog scene is much better in the Two Towers than it is in FotR. Well I don't have the blu-ray's but I compared the DVD's. My observation is that the scene is better on the Two Towers DVD compared to the FotR DVD.

Your opinion may be in the majority, but it shouldn't be used to belittle another person's impressions anymore than theirs should be used to belittle yours.

Just to repeat myself ad nauseum, I felt 'FotR's transfer could be better, but I also think its flaws shouldn't prevent anyone from buying and enjoying this release. Suffice to say, not everyone has to devote themselves to one camp or the other.

Judging PQ and AQ isn't an exact science, and there is no absolute right and wrong answer in the debate (at least not with the facts anyone has on hand). I'll be viewing an original theatrical print of 'FotR' in two weeks, and I'll report back my findings then (and even update my review, if necessary).

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this ongoing discussion, but try and keep it civil, gentlemen. It's getting a bit unruly here and there
Looking forward to your keen eye and what it sees and reports back on that 35mm print of Fellowship!

One of the first things i checked when watching the Two towers "Monkey" was the Balrog scene as it was a direct comparison to Fellowship, and to be fair there was not a great deal of difference, and as i said in a previous post the shire scenes in Return of the king were softer than the rest of the movie.

I still saw much improved detail in a lot of scenes. My opinion is just like Ken states, it is still a great movie that should be enjoyed.

I will note that the audio was great. It had a terrific dynamic range and depth that really further enhanced the pleasure of watching these movies. Dialog was very clear and was not lost in any of the loud, demanding scenes. Low frequency extension was tight and didn't overwhelm the imaging from the front speakers. Surround use was quite noticeable and really encompassing in those scenes that provided a lot of ambient noises. IMO, the audio really is the triumph for this particular movie.

Didn't have time to be anal, because i too was too LOST in the story!!!!!!

Ken, how are you able to see that version of FOTR? Is there a special screening somewhere?

I agree with Ken's comments. If you enjoy FOTR on Blu, great. For me, it's the first Blu-Ray I have seen in long time where the inconsistencies in video quality really bothered me. I think it's frustrating to see one scene so sharp and detail and then 20 secs later, seeing problems, rinse/repeat. For me TTT and ROTK, the video was great and not a distraction at all.

I picked up the trilogy knowing that I would buy all three films again once the EE's were released. I'm happy I did. I watched FotR last night and was very impressed. Sure, the PQ isnt the best, but the imagery itself is great.

well just don't purchase it. You are titled to your opinion. If it seemed crappy spend your money on something else worth watching.

Maybe that's the reason why you missed the problems in this transfer as well. Also, it seems you have a lot of time on your hands sir. You're on this board all day 24/7 continuously praising this release as it was the mother of all transfers. Another thing, i thought Blu-ray.com was suppose to be non-bias when it came reviews. Why is it then that YOUR review of LOTR seems to be always the most recent (and highest rated) one even though you were one of the first to post your comments? Either you work at blu-ray.com or someone there is pushing up your review constantly. Which ever it is, it defeats the purpose of what these boards are meant to do.

LOL, wow it seems that you don't have anytime on your hands brother. You show the same will and drive to down play them. Look at the review board 40 people have reviewed it, out of those 40 35 says nothings wrong with it but someone is trying their best to downplay them. Stop trying because in all actually your opinion doesn't matter. but please state it because thats what the site is for. But don't put endless energy to try to prove someone wrong. There is a small percent that don't like the release and are trying very hard to get other to agree with them. Just chill.

Yep. I'm with you. I refuse to buy the set due to the FOTR transfer. Call me picky. Call me crazy. I will stick to it. If the EE's come out and the FOTR transfer is still poor, I'll make a decision then. Makes me sad this is the first Blu-Ray of a blockbuster movie that I refuse to buy because of a poor video transfer. The only other Blu-Ray I wouldn't buy because of audio/video issues is Phantom of the Opera for not having a loseloss audio track! (WTF?!)

Thanks for letting me have my opinion

Of course I was joking.

I enjoy Blu-ray, of course I want my movies as much as possible in Blu-ray and enjoy them this way. There is nothing wrong with that. I just find some of the comments sometimes a tad funny by certain people, as if a Blu-ray is worst then a DVD or that it's unwatchable...I suppose everyone is different but I hold to the view that in the end we are movie fans and not PQ fans. But like I said, everyone is different and they can see it form a different point of view.

People are losing their minds in here. Dying for people to agree with them. Im not bashing your rating because it was your opinion.
I look at the reviewers rating and then the average or higher user rating to decide if im going to buy the movie. If a person basics they're decisions on one person then they are cheating themselves out of they're own point of view. Don't change your review because it was your original review. Do i agree with your review no, but who am i to say you are wrong. OPINIONS OPINIONS OPINIONS everyone is entitled to them.

and to clarify one thing, im on this thread all day because the is my NUMBER 1 !!!!! FAVORITE MOVIE OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!!! EVER!!!!!!!!!! So thats why i've seen the BluRay about 3 times, along with my wife. I think this movie is on another planet and people weren't ready for it once it got released. These films made 3 billion dollars worldwide (theater money). I don't know how much it made with the dvds, blu rays, merchandising etc.
