This is true, but i don't think avatar will pass up the Matrix in overall Revenue let alone LOTR's.
The Matrix trilogy only has made around 1.6 billion so far. The LotR trilogy has made an impressive 2.9 billion so far, but Avatar already is at 2.7 billion and that's not even counting the upcoming dvd/blu-ray revenue. Avatar is huge.

good question, you will have to wait for someone to give it a review, but i would suppose its the same, very rarely is a foreign version different from the US version. But just wait to see if its different, you could just buy the US version because LOTR cost about 45 US dollars on amazon.co.uk and amazon.com is still selling it for 65. Thats if you don't want to take the risk.

ohh, i didn't know the numbers were that high, i thought it was still millions. Well Avatar is a good movie, i preorder the UK steel. But IMO you cant compare LOTR with AVATAR.

I'm gonna say Return of the King and The Two Towers is very close to what I'd call "best possible quality". Fellowship isn't as bad as some are saying it is, but is flawed. The audio tracks on all three are perfection.

Avatar is huge because it had the advantage of the 3D tickets which is more expensive then regular tickets

Avatar will obviously sell more.

Lord of the Rings is selling very healthily, but Avatar is still going to break records.
1. Many consumers are not buying this because they already own the trilogy on DVD and are satisfied.
2. Possibly thousands of people are not buying LOTR because A. they're waiting for extended cuts or B. they heard about the video quality problems.
3. LOTR is $84.99 at Best Buy while Avatar is 24.99 at Best Buy.
4. Lord of the Rings is still not getting as much advertisement as Avatar is. I went to Best Buy last week and they had one stand showing off the LOTR BDs and that was it. Avatar had three stands, two posters by the door and there's an ad for Avatar posted on every DVD shelf.

If this was the EE they were releasing, I probably could've lived with the overall PQ...but I can't go back and watch the TE's now.

And I'm pretty sure once they do release the EE, there will some major marketing push, unlike this time around.

They are already making allot off of it. You EE fans are small in number maybe 5,000 total EE fans are complaining, look at amazon, this site and other HD sites its probably around 5,000 people vs millions of fans??? They don't care about the EE lovers why do you think they are pushing it so far back. Its all about the dollar bill.

Can the haters explain to me why if new masters were made for all three films they'd go out of their way to make one of the films look worse and then Peter Jackson and his cinematographer would both approve it?

I see what you mean about the Council of Elrond, dialogue is good though, especially after Gimli tries to break the Ring with his axe, so it isn't that distracting...

I have the EEs on VHS. For kicks, I got them out and started watching them on my SD CRT TV in my bedroom. They are in OAR, which means the top third and bottom third of the screen are black bars.

Of course it was. They released it on a day when the only new release was a Nic Cage movie that most people have never heard of.
