The TEs took one VHS each, except ROTK which took 2. All of the EEs take 2 tapes. I haven't timed each tape, but I wouldn't be surprised if they used T160 tapes instead of the 2-hour T120. When I get home I'll look at the packaging to see how long they are.

Did you read the link posted a few days ago? They have tons of material that has not been released yet. I'm sure they will include that with the EEs. I just hope Jackson decides to remove the Gandalf getting b**ch-slapped by the Witch-King scene.

Odd, this http://www.amazon.com/Lord-Rings-Ret...1349526&sr=1-5
says RoTK EE is only one tape, guess it's incorrect.

Haha.

Seriously, Wood knew he would get some criticism for how he approached the role and he'd be the first to admit he took the whiney b*tch road (though probably not in those words). There are lots of ways to say "I'm glad you're here, Sam." I don't know how much to attribute to Jackson's direction and how much to Wood's style, but there is little room for argument that it went the overly self-pitying, staring longingly route. When I read the books, I didn't imagine Frodo quite like that--I doubt many did. Wood is on record as saying he didn't know any other way to approach the character. It certainly worked for Jackson's interpretation and given the success of the trilogy, he knew what he was doing and what audiences would relate to.

Honestly, I'm very bad about shying away from spending more money on a single set or title. I got great deals on my Wizard of Oz and Gone with the Wind CE's. And I got my Planet of the Apes set for Christmas. But, my problem, is I get to the store and see a bunch of other blus on sale for $9.99 and $11.99, and then look at LotR for $60 plus, and I grab a handful of the $10 and $12 discs, instead.

I more than likely won't end up getting this set until my birthday, when someone else buys it for me.

I think the road Jackson took was "let's show the growing up of the young hobbits during this experience" We see all four going from young care free immature young "man" to experience of life "men". The scene in the tavern (I forgot the name) in the Shire at the end show that very clearly. They are back and they are no longer the hoobits they were when they left.

In the books they are all already mature hobbits to a point with the expection of Pippin who is still quite young. Frodo is a aristocratic hobbit in the books and Sam is more like man servant a bit like you would see in the novels of Jules Verne (think professor Arounax and Conseil for example)

The information posted in this article by NYorker:
http://www.hollywoodnews.com/2010/04...-ray-releases/

the latest review from Ken, and the fact that most of the people who have actually watched the BD's seem to agree the PQ is not that bad.

Where are you wandering to?

We can only hope, the look of FOTR wasn't purely intentional so maybe they (director, cinematographer) would want a completely new DI for the EE's.

I seriously hope so.

Over half of those posts are members defending the great story these movies provide regardless of PQ.
No one questions the story, only the PQ.

"I dont think there has been an announcement either way. The article that was linked yesterday indicates that there probably wont be. Thats how I read it, anyway. "

I read nothing from that article which indicates either way what they will be doing.

I think it was more me making assumptions after I read that these were already new transfers and I couldnt see them going back to it again. Hopefully they do though, even if its just for FOTR.

There hasn't been an official announcement, and there probably won't be until next year. However, mark my words: the announcement of the Blu-ray edition of the EEs will coincide with the early stages of the marketing push for the first 'Hobbit' theatrical release, and the actual EE release will hit stores a month or so before the 'Hobbit' rolls into theaters. The box set will even include a free movie pass for the new flick.

If it turns out I'm wrong, dig up this post and send me a PM. I'll shave my head or something

Truly, you know the wily heart and magical sleeves of Peter Jackson

And no, I have my hair. But, rest assured, if something goes wrong with my follicles in the next year, and Warner doesn't capitalize on the release of 'The Hobbit,' I'll find some other way of humiliating myself

Wrong. It is based on units. One SKU is one unit regardless that it was a trilogy. According to Amazon it is still doing well this week. In the top ten.
