Default So, it the Star Wars box set is set to come out in 2011, will that help the chances

of getting LotR EE late this year or will they release in 2012 or will they go head to head with SW for the most desired box set of 2011?
Me, I'm not a SW fan (oh no!) but I just wondered if this new rumored SW release will have an impact on the release of the LotR EE which I crave with all my fan-atic might.

@deeman54

i suppose your right. The first movie is really the only one that got canned, and it seems like they are leaning the fault more towards the source then the tranasfer. What im really upset about is that we didnt get the extended cuts of the movies. i wonder if they will try to touch up the first movie one more time for that release.

If they come out around the same time, I'll buy both.

I don't think you understand it. The "original theatrical release" of older movies is film. It's analog (or digital printed onto analog). It has to be digitized before you can feed it into a video encoder. There are countless variables and price/quality tradeoffs in doing so. WB chose to cut costs.

Maybe but i do think(this is just my Opinion) that the EE are already finished and jackson is just waiting to get as much out of the TE and gain hype over the Hobbit. I don't think they will go back to the lab to fix minor infractions.

Perhaps Grand Bob can help me out, I have no idea what an Astari is and I even tried several online info sites.

Istari ("wise-ones") was the fancy name for the wizards.

Regardless of my ranting about my preference for the books, I am still planning on buying this on Blu when it hits my price threshold. It may be a while, but I think it'll happen. The movies are still better than about 90% of the "flotsam and jetsam" in the theatres most of the time.

Not to be confused with Ishtar, which is one of the worst movies of all time.

I recently snatched a boxset of the entire Grenada Sherlock Holmes series that Amazon dropped to under $100 for a few days. I have seen it as high as $179 on Amazon and the MSRP is $229.00. I am hoping that Amazon will have a good but brief sale on LoTR. If so, I will gladly announce it here, AFTER I buy it myself.

To all,

What are some of your favorite lines in these movies?

My favorite has to be from FOTR when Boromir lays dying and
Aragorn is kneeling beside him and just before he dies he says:

"I would have followed you my brother, my Captain, my King."

Actually, this whole sequence is my favorite.
Quote:
Boromir: They took the little ones!

Aragorn: Stay still.

Boromir: Frodo! Where is Frodo?

Aragorn: I let Frodo go.

Boromir: Then you did what I could not.
I tried to take the ring from him.

Aragorn: The Ring is beyond our reach now.

Boromir: Forgive me, I did not see.
I have failed you all.

Aragorn: No Boromir. You fought bravely.
You have kept your honor.

(Aragorn attempts to pull out one of the arrows)

Boromir: Leave it.

It is over. The world of men will fall and all will come to darkness, and my city to ruin.

Aragorn: I do not know what strength is in my blood, but I swear to you, I will not let the White City fall. Nor our people fail!

Boromir: Our people... our people.

(Aragorn gives him back his sword)

I would have followed you my brother...
my Captain... my King.

(Boromir dies)

Aragorn: Be at peace, son of Gondor.

For those of you interested in the original sound design of LOTR some interesting videos not in the extras with the disks:

http://designingsound.org/2009/12/th...he-two-towers/

The BD Trilogy sound is DTS-HD MA 6.1 as advertised on the box, not 5.1. If you get DTS- ES 5.1 matrix, you don't have a DTS-HD MA decoder in either your player or your AVR. As a result, you are getting the lossy format which is capped a 1.5 Mbps rather than the DTS-HD MA 6.1 which is variable at 3 to 6 Mbps on all three BDs. DTS-HD MA 'Essentials' drops only the DTS Neo format, not ES matrix or discrete which are dropped from DVDs.

For more info:

http://www.hollywoodnews.com/2010/04...-ray-releases/

http://www.lordoftherings.net/home.htm (Click on menu, then read Restoration process)

http://www.dts.com/DTS_Audio_Formats.../Overview.aspx

If your really rabid, read the DTS White Paper

http://www.dts.com/~/media/B962F033C...6293C9E86.ashx

Not to worry. If you are getting the 1.5 Mbps DTS-ES format, it still beats the original Dolby Digital 448 kbps format handily.

Essentials does drop ES Matrix. All the devices I have that are crippled with it will not recognize the flag, both players internally decoding and receivers getting the bitstreamed signal (which do play DTS Neo BTW).

If that's in their "whitepapers" then they're suitable for use in the restroom.

You are correct, good enough to know the DTS is way more dynamic the Dolby, but we aren't gonna get back on that topic. It just proves that i might know what im talking about or just got a little lucky
