No worries, your intentions were clear and noble. I'm glad the discussion is occurring, it's just time it earned its own thread in one of our audio forums. Thanks for contributing to it though!

Well put Ken Brown this is what i have been saying all along.

A "Dts master audio 6.1 es matrix" track is in essence a 5.1 track ie 6 individual audio channels.

Whereas a "Dts master audio 6.1 es discrete" track is a true 6.1 track ie 7 individual audio channels.

And as i have said before why would Dts make to seperate 6.1 es audio tracks ie matrix and discrete if in fact both were the same?

I am not sure if raygendreau thinks the Dts track on the Lotr is in fact discrete,or does he belive it makes no difference if the track is discrete or matrix,as they are both exactly the same ie 6.1 formats derived from a 6.1 source?

I also fail to see why raygendreau keeps mentioning the bitrate as it makes no difference if the format is Dvd or Blu-ray,as you still have to adhere to the 6.1 es matrix or discrete protocols, the only difference between the two being one of them is lossless and on is lossy.

An elf, a dwarf and an ancient Maiar walk into the prancing pony, and i tell you the horse was not pleased,as he had just bought a Blu-ray copy of the "Lord of the rings" with a dodgy Dts soundtrack, that will teach him to buy those Pirate Blu-rays from those shifty rangers.

...Butterbur looks at the dwarf and says, "What'yer doin' here now? Dwarf tossin' night isn't 'till Thursday."

...Butterbur looks at the elf and his pointy ears, then says, "Your in the wrong movie. The Star Trek set is over at Paramount".

...Butterbur looks at the Maiar and says, "The last one of you guys that came in here said 'put it on his tab', then he disappeared."

The current sales figure are not surprising. Well maybe a little bit. Holmes is back in 1st place. LoTR dropped to 5th. I expected it to be a lot lower than that.

By the way, if you wanted the digital copies to the trilogy, you might want to get them while they last. WB, like they've been doing lately, has repackaged the trilogy without the digital copies.

I saw a lot of them at Best Buy today.

Bought the trilogy. LOTR TFOTR looks ok kinda soft. Other 2 look fantastic. I'll just pad my expense account when I buy the extended versions. With MGM in trouble who knows when we get The Hobbit and extended versions of LOTR

Tsk, I may throw out my digital copies, they make it impossible almost to pull out the blu-rays and watch them.

What does this new packaging look like? Are they just selling the one six disc case with the 3 Blus and 3 DVDs of Special Features? Does it still come with a slipbox, possibly resized to just fit the one case?

Yes this is what it looked like to me, it was the exact same but thinner and looked to contain only one case in it.
