I want the EEs too but these are still some of my favourite movies of all time. Will not wait 3 years to get them and also means I won't double dip. Thanks for the heads-up.

thanks for the heads up...this will be a double dip as long as the audio is lossless...not going to wait three years to watch these magnificent films on blu unless we get a bogus soundtrack which i don't think they would do knowing the magnitude of the potential sales of these disc's

I really, really wish I were in your situation so that I could re-experience seeing these films for the first time.

LOL I still remember my mother's reaction to FoTR, she said it was one of the worst movies she had ever seen, guess she never read the books as a child like most of us.

This is how they get me to buy the regular versions, because I'm not waiting until 2012!

To each his own , but its due to all those people who will double or even triple dip that the studios do this time and again. For all those with deep pockets , go for it , me I will wait , there are many excellent films coming up to fill the gap till the best versions appear.

in 2012 there will be a mega ultra edition with the Hobbit movie(s) and all three Extended versions of the LOTR trilogy?

I'll wait. I hate to say it. But I'll wait.

oh goddamit, who am I fooling? A three year wait?? I'll be buying these theatricals first day. Damn you, PJ. Damn you! *shakes fist*

A December LOTR release makes it more likely that I'll double dip because I may get them as a Christmas gift without asking for them.

I am in the same boat- I cant wait to see the movies and will buy theatrical and then wait 3yrs by the time the 2 hobbit films come out and then the whole bundle comes out. That is definitely enough time to enjoy the theatricals and get my moneys worth- dont feel like a true double dip.

And, PJ is one of the first directors who was very up front and laid out his intentions in terms of how the original trilogy was going to be released and what you were getting so as a consumer you could choose.

Not like these other films / directors/ studios who turne dout crap intentionally knowing they could hit you up again later on.

So, I dont hold a grudge with PJ at all.

Approx. 9 months to go. Hopefully a Merry X-mas then

I also had a buddy who didn't like FOTR... said it was "the worst ending of all time"... (didn't realize it was part 1 of a trilogy).

Three years is just too long to wait. Then i'll have roughly two years to start saving for the "ultimate" edition... 149.99? 179.99? Any guesses?

My guess is by then blu-ray will be a lot less so probably about what we paid for the Batman Anthology, around $90-100.

Let's hope it's only "less" and not obsolete!
