Yeah he was awesome.
[Show spoiler]Sauron was noob in front of him. He even killed the mightiest hound of morgoth(forgot his name) but he also died.

I know it's been a few years since i have read it, and i need to re-read it. I have read it twice and can't hardly remember much of it, it's so complex and crazy. I don't know how many times i flipped back to the appendices, trying to follow along.

I think our Tolkien Reading Group (on this site) is going to read the Silmarillion next. Is that right, Grand Bob?

That sounds like a worthy goal. I think Silmarillion, although admittedly difficult to get through because of the "density" of the material, would be a great way to get a full appreciation of the depth of Middle-earth, as well as the origin of the material for LotR. We just have to figure out a suitable starting date for everyone.

I would but I only read Star Wars. But I probably should read the LOTR books before I die.

The people who said, with all certainty, that the release of the LoTR EE Blu-rays, would coincide with the release of The Hobbit movie are quiet. Did their heads explode?

Exactly. And there was NO official announcement, but people here were throwing it around as fact.

But will it be delayed?

Jackson said he understood del Toro's position.

"We understand how the protracted development time on these two films, due to reasons beyond anyone's control ... has compromised his commitment to other long term projects. The bottom line is that Guillermo just didn't feel he could commit six years to living in New Zealand, exclusively making these films, when his original commitment was for three years." Jackson said development on "The Hobbit" would continue although his statement did not specifically address any possible postponement of the release date. "New Line and Warner Bros. will sit down with us this week, to ensure a smooth and uneventful transition, as we secure a new director for the Hobbit. We do not anticipate any delay or disruption to ongoing production works," he said.

Notice MGM wasn't mentioned? I think it's time to file suit against the creditors of MGM to wrest control of the Hobbit film rights away from them.

And there is some grumblings that it is Warner holding things up. If it ever gets made, it might go down in history as the single biggest studio screw up. First the knuckhead at New Line (a/k/a Warner) that blackballed Jackson to the MGM situation (and it might be other reasons) running off Del Toro. I am somewhat happy as now he can hopefully do Hellboy 3, At the Mountains of Madness, and the 1000 other movies he has lined up. He may be my favorite director working today. To have him in limbo is just insanely stupid.

That was quite a shocker. The situation has to be bad to give up on a guaranteed money-maker that would probably would have been the pinnacle of his career.
