I am not using the Fonstad Atlas, I don't even have that. I have just been flipping to the back of the book. I have the Maps of Tolkien's Middle-Earth, but i havn't used it.

I would surely hope that when the extended versions are released, they completely revamp the audio and picture quality. I was a bit disappointed with the theatrical trilogy release in those fields. And judging from the way it was so poorly received by consumers and reviewed by editors, im pretty sure at least someone was fired behind it all.

I just finished it for the second time, and I must admit that it was a) a much easier read and b) much easier to follow the second time around. I have the atlas, as well, and am now reading through it to get a better understanding of the geography of everything.

I need to read that sucker again, too.

The first time around I had a lot more time. Had an easy job while studying for the LSAT, no wife, no kids. Things are much differnet now.

Silmarillion is a tough read due to Tolkien packing in 50+ years of mythological development into 300 pages. It is a similar effort to reading Moby Dick or War and Peace, but more rewarding (IMO) because it is more universal in scope. As Radagast has mentioned, the Ted Nasmith illustrated version is the recommended edition, not only for the artwork, but also because a letter from Tolkien is included that offers a detailed summary of the work, and his motivation for writing it.

I've recently started to re-read the Silmarillion (it's still a tough read for me), although this time I'm picking up on some things I didn't in my last reading.

I couldn't help but notice that the guy who was executed by firing squad in Utah today requested to watch the Lord of the Rings movies yesterday. I hope he specified the Blu-ray version. You don't have time to waste on the inferior DVD format.

Damn, Blu-ray would be the last to think about I think.
I'd choose Blade Runner, 2001: A Space Odyssey & The Fountain. In that order.

If he had asked to watch the EEs on Blu, he'd still be alive.

Somethings are so evil, that even a Maiar like Gandalf can't overcome them.

Now WB has announced the movies are going to be released on Blu separately. Why bother?
