The prevalent theory is the $7.99 is for the individual movies, so about $24 + tax for the whole set. Not a bad Black Friday deal at all.

Still cannot pass that up. Glad that I waited then.

But when in the hell is Bakshi's version going to drop to a more reasonable level?!

I wouldn't even pay $8 for the theatrical cuts. EEs or nothing for me.

Me too. As much as I want to watch it on BD, I know I will double dip when EE cuts come out. Even if it's $24 for the set, that would mean that I will be $24 out...

opposite for me. the EE's much much worse than the smooth theatrical cuts. I was BEGGING for ROTK to end when I watched the extended cut. it just droned on and on and on

Yeah, like Stormcrow mentioned earlier, it's most likely for each individual movie only.

Man....this upcoming 'Black Friday' is going to be killer for everybody here! Can't wait to see what else comes up.

I wish we Canadians had deals like that. The prices we pay when our dollar is at par with yours is insane.

My favorite version would be if they just got to the island right away, and have no natives there, just KK and all those huge ancient creatures, but I understand why he chose to set up the characters the way he did.
It certainly make sit a better movie, but it could have been done differently.

KK on Blu-ray is one of the best experiences ever!
It's a match made in heaven.
The PQ is 5- (some slight bandings in backgrounds)
AQ is 5+ however (Absolute killer!!!!)

I think they are real chick flicks, so although I normally enjoy some good chick flicks, I never rooted for LOTR.

Orlando Bloom is the worst "actor" on earth.= for the teen girls
Viggo Mortensen for the middle-aged ladies
Liv Tyler for the teen girls to identify with

They wasted hours with :Oh, I miss the shire. I wish everything was the way it used to be. The shire, the shire.....
He way overdid that IMHO.
The movies could be really great and just 2 hours long, or he could have included parts of the novels that were left out.
The pajama fight of the wizards.
Hugo Weaving as an Elf???
He just looks like the guy in The Matrix
Well, my list is long, but those, among the many bad visual effects, are my reasons why I think it could actually use a reboot.

I'll admit you have me on Orlando Bloom.

I love the books - I first read them when I was 8 years old - but apart from one or two of my favourite minor passages, I can understand why some stuff got dropped. LOTR isn't very conducive to the screen.

I think your opinions are all valid, although most of that didn't bother me. I have to admit I was a big fan of the the "I miss the Shire" stuff; there was a lot of emotion in those passages and I loved it. But that's all personal opinion :P

I'd imagine the films will get re-booted but not for at least another decade or two - I could see it not happening until the 30's.

BluYoda loves, loves, loves the prequels. So real story, quality acting and great directing are alien to him.

In my opinion, they should just re-restore the films for BD and make them as fantastic as they should be, the money from the Hobbit movie could allow this to happen, or just do it now. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy deserves to have the best presentation and I think it wasn't presented as good as it should. No, I do not expect eye-popping clarity like newer films, but I expect a lot more clarity than the ones released last April. I also feel as though as Peter Jackson should be apart of it, kinda like how Bob Gale was apart of BTTF blu-rays, and they are amazing. No reboot is necessary, just a re-do of the blu-rays. They could have been so much better!!

I personally don't think we should be aiming for BTTF quality when we do a transfer, but much, much higher. I don't have a huge screen and I could see a ton of DNR and EE. At least with LOTR, most of the time I didn't see it.

I agree the transfers could have been better, but they're nowhere near as bad as people make them out to be and definitely a far cry better than the DVD's (which were already reference quality back then).

They could do a restoration, but it would be super-expensive and not necessary after less than ten years.
