So is there any difference between buying the three movies separately and buying the box set (other than the digital copies)?

Not even tempted to buy. I'd rather take those $24 and spend them now on one or two other movies and wait (patiently) for the extended editions. I already have them on DVD, so no sense in my opinion in getting a TE that's not did receive the best release effort.

I agree. Even if I ended up saving $100, I can't imagine taking my precious day just off to run around crowded parking lots and long lines.

Ain't worth it.

I see them all as one film so can't really split (though I do like the Balrog from the first!). Watched all 3 extended versions in one day a couple of years back. Might try that again when the Blus are released

I'm a sucker for the conclusions. Biggest battles, best emotion, everything riding on a last second push...love Return of the King (Jedi).

Ah, and best video transfer

Wouldn't it be funny (not gonna happen, but just for the fun of it...) if, sometime next week, after all the sales, WB announces the release of the Extended Cut BD?

You mean like when WB released a lot of HD-DVD titles in Nov and Dec and switched to Blu-ray after New Years? No, it's pretty painful actually.

Even if they're not the extended editions, it's still Lord of the Rings in HD for under $25. I can't wait till my order comes in. This purchase was a no brainer, and I had no intention of getting them this early.

I'm glad I got my order in early yesterday. I see they're all back ordered now. Mine will be here tomorrow. At $7.99 a piece, I couldn't care less if the extended editions came out tomorrow!

Even though I want the EEs and I wasn't going to double dip for $24, I decided I could double dip for $8.

I picked up three copies of the trilogy at Target this morning after getting assurances from the store manager that I would get a refund if the item went on sale on Black Friday.

I saw the ad too but never thought that they would give the whole trilogy at that price. Good luck.
