I have until November or December to get my set-up ready for these films.

I keep telling myself that I'll be waiting for the extended cuts but I don't think I have the willpower... I'm sure the PQ/AQ on these will be amazing and because LOTR is my favorite of all time I may just have to get these.

Preorder lists usually only have estimated street dates. Either way, I'm happy.

Default Lord of the Rings BD - Theatricial Edition - $69.99

Link-a-licious

Preorders are available now...I won't be on the list, though. I'll wait for the extended edition. This whole "release multiple editions to milk the public" philosophy really burns me.

Ah man, they're doing the whole Theatrical-then-Extended Versions thing again.

Thanks for the heads up though, it means there's something going on... right?

I would normally wait for the EE, but I won't wait the rumored 3 years for them.

hate to do this, but I'll be double dipping on this and the extended versions. I mean, I could see if they were being released 6 months/a year apart, but we're talking a 2 to 3 year wait before the Extendeds come out. No way am I waiting that long to see LOTR in hi-def. I'll take it how I can get it.

Each movie is about 40 minutes longer in the EE, so it's a big difference. They haven't announced a release date yet, but it's expected late this year. I'd actually have been shocked if Warner did release the EE at the same time as the theatrical (or with the theatrical). They'll get huge sales now of the theatrical, and huge sales in a couple years with the EE.

I think it goes like this

FOTR = 30 minutes added

TTT = 45 minutes added

ROTK = 50 minutes added

and every minute is most welcome.

I'll wait for the EE's on blu, the theatricals just don't cut it after seeing the EE's. I heard that Peter Jackson said that he won't be doing LotR on blu til after he's finished on the Hobbit, which makes me hopeful that the EE's might be even longer than the previous releases since he obviously wants to dedicate some time to getting them just right.

Tom Bombadil anyone?

It's rumored to be 3 years?!?! How accurate is that, do you think? Why wouldn't they just release the EE with the theatrical cuts at the same time. Oh yeah: more money.

I'm troubled: I'd like to see this on BD, but if I watched the theatrical cut, I'll only focus on what was left out. So I guess I'll hold out.

I would be interested in purchasing the EXT versions seperatly, but I have only seen the first film EXT and have not seen any other versions of the other two films.. so I can wait as long as they like.. won't be buying that theatrical ed set.

Sort of a waste. oh well thank god I'm not a fan, some are gonna be angray esp those who have bought edition after edition to help keep NEW LINE afloat only to have it owned out by WB, and to keep the Jackson family with some extra green.

Country is in a recession we don't have money to buy every edition out there.

it's unusual when topics like "EE" and "Ringing" are actually positive elements of BD.
