Peter, I think he was referring to the fact that when checking his readout it came up as 6.1 (ES) instead of 5.1 (ES). I'm guessing it depends on the equipment because I would expect my Anthem to say 5.1 like it does for all the Disney 5.1ES tracks.

I know everyone says the fellowship looks horrible on the theatrical but is it better than the DVD Extended I have now?

Plus I do not own TT or ROTK. So I'm looking to get those as well but instead of getting the theatrical trilogy I would just get those if fellowship wasn't any better in picture than my DVD. There is the audio though I guess I should consider going from the DVD to Blu. Any thoughts?

Yes it's better than the DVD. But the EEs are the way to go.

Yes, the transfer for the Theatrical Cut of FELLOWSHIP on BD is pretty flawed, with much room for improvement.

BUT, having said that, all BD transfers (barring the FELLOWSHIP Extended fiasco) outdo their DVD counterparts.

Also, it's not clear from your message what cuts you are interested in, but at $23.49 as it's going now at Amazon, the theatrical cut boxset is a bargain you shouldn't miss.

Personally, I have never understood that choice between the theatricals and the extendeds, and people getting one but not the other; for me, they are very different animals, and I want and own both, even if I am not that a hardcore fan of the material.

I agree FOTR TE BD still looks like good HD. Depending on your TV, assuming you don't have a PJ with giant screen, you might not notice anything wrong with it at all. I have not seen the EE BD and want to keep it that way.

Regarding audio, I only compared ROTK, but I preferred the EE DVD DTS 6.1 track. The BD seemed to be lacking a whole bunch of LFE, such that I thought it must be a different mix entirely.

If you are coming from DVD you might want to read some reviews of the TE BD written back when the set first came out. I find that older Blu-ray and HD-DVD reviews put DVD comparisons in better perspective. These days I have to wonder if some reviewers have ever seen a DVD or Laserdisc.

I have a question regarding both releases. Are the extras from the theatrical releases (DVDs) included in the extended trilogy?

Can anybody help me out with what the disc case sizes are for this version? I have the boxcase that i bought from somebody on here for a couple of bucks, and i also have the 3 individuals movies that i got on black friday a couple of years ago.

It looks like it fits 2 cases, across 6 discs. I've tried putting two standard 3 disc cases in the box and they don't fit, but two standard 2 disc cases do fit.

Can somebody who has this measure the 2 case sizes and let me know the mm of it?

Thanks

Pull out a measuring tape and convert inches to mm.

I already know that the gap is 25mm. If i split that by two, that would be 12.5mm per case, which isn't a size for 3 BD cases, 2 BD cases or any other.

I'm asking somebody who has the cases to measure theirs so i can get exactly what it would have came with.

So is this box set OOP? it's not on Amazon anymore.

Walmart has a pre-order for a re-release with The Hobbit movie cash.

The Trilogy for $9?
I went to Walmart in Syracuse and couldn't find it. Just individual titles for something like $9 each
