I have the original 2011 Theatrical release. Are all the bonus features in that 2001 release's discs included with the appendices that come with the extended remaster release in 2021?

My mum wanted to watch LOTR over Christmas so I roped her into buying the 4Ks. I gotta say, I wasn't really into the idea, not because I don't like LOTR but because for each movie it's a bit of a slog. But after receiving the boxset I must say now I'm pretty hyped to rewatch them over Christmas

i've got an all day trilogy screening of the theatrical versions in imax with laser booked for next sunday and seeing this post just reminded me that last night i was dreaming i was there watching it with tears of joy welling in my eyes!

I know not having seen the EE for at least 15+years maybe means i'm unqualified to support the 'TE's are underrated claim', and they had* been my intended next watch so I can experience them that way and refresh myself and come to an informed conclusion on which i definitely prefer, but just from all discussion i see online and among casual movie fans i talk to IRL, people still sing the EE's praises over the TE's i've found, so am definitely inclined to agree.

I say i had been intending to watch the EE's next, but the TE's are being screened in cinemas near me as we speak, which is unusual as its otherwise always the EE's on (again, given the perceived general sentiment of most, of the cinema's that screen them i think they just assume, and i guess not incorrectly, this is what the audience prefers/demands and so happy to oblige if it means more tickets will be sold), but while I've missed the FotR TE tonight (it was only showing on Sunday just gone and tonight), to be able to catch the TE's in the cinema at some point has been at the top of the wish list since i started going to the cinema regularly so will hopefully make it to TT and RoTK when they come around in the next week or two. It seems like the EE's are fantastic if you're a fan of the books/Tolkein/want to inhabit ME for the maximum time possible, whereas maybe due to pacing etc. the TE are better films/'cinema' is the impression i get

and to update on this, i didn't end up catching any of these TE screenings in the end, but did instead catch each EE across september weekends which did confirm that for my money the EE scenes add nothing of substantial value and even in some instances take away from the overall experience. totally inessential and the TE's are as near perfection as it can get when taken as a whole imo (and while fine to elaborate if asked, not looking to debate/argue particularly, so all power to those of you that love the EE's over TE's of course!)

I was never going to bother with the theatrical blus, had the EEs for ages. But ive just heard about these new 2021 remastered and noticed HMV has the trilogy of said remastered for £12.99.

Are they an improvement over the original theatrical blus?

Yes, they are. I got that edition too.

Just the movies. The extras that are included are just trailers. They never did audio commentaries for the theatrical cuts.
