We'll see IF they can fit over 3 hours of superb audio/video on one disc for the EE's. That's what I'd be worried about. If my movie is on more than one disc I'll take the theatrical cut.

I ripped you in the other thread and i guess i'll rip you here. We're all aware of the option of renting. Most people rent when they're not sure if they're gonna like the movie. Most people on these threads already know they like the movies, otherwise what are we talking about? Are you aware that by renting the trilogy twice a year till whenever the EE's come out, that you might as well have bought the darn thing now? It's not like the TE's are gonna be worthless once the EE's hit. Keep 'em in good shape and you might get half your money back to put towards the EE's.
And i think it's hilarious that people on this forum always throw out "the economy sucks" argument when they think something is too expensive. This isn't a bread, water, and shelter forum.

I will but now it's a great price for the set. I can't wait to see people b*tch about the price of the EE when they come out.

I can't wait for the extended editions to come out but there's no way I am passing these up. Already pre-ordered and can't wait for them to arrive. I don't like double dipping but, if New Line does these right, these will be absolutely amazing. Will definitely buy the EE ones as well when they come out.

Nope..its called greed....and greed is what got this country into the mess we are in right now I personally am sick and tired of double and triple dipping in ever single format! Even the films I love I will no longer double dip in the same format. There is not one single reason the EE's not to be released this year! You want to be idiot sheep thats up to you.....but these studios need to be sent the message "get it right the first time" or just dont put it out at all.

I am more concerned that New Line will poorly encode this release like they do with so many of their releases (Wedding Singer is the latest victim). Is there any chance that Jackson will allow New Line to turn up the DNR and EE and down the bitrate during the encode (essentially screwing up this release)?

I hate that New Line has their hooks on one of the crown jewels of cinema.

I totally agree. I'm tired of the deliberate double dips.
I'll rent, but will not buy.

Idk, I see nothing wrong with releasing different versions of a film. It's when they release the same movie twice because of extra special features and what not that gets me rattled. Most people, including myself, prefer the extended edition. But I don't mind having both versions since I am a collector great movies. Heck, I have several versions of the Halloween movies.

I've waited too long for these. Already pre-ordered, and triple-dipping on EE upon their release unfortunately.
O WELL I STILL CAN'T WAIT

If buy greed you mean not spending then yes you're absolutely right.

But anyways why would you rent it twice every year until the extended version is out. Are you serious, you need to see it that many times to tide you over?

If WB can provide a faithful release for a big name like The Dark Knight, is there a reason they cannot provide a faithful transfer for Lord of the Rings? Sure, they COULD screw it up, but I'm going to be optimistic.

And The Wedding Singer might not be the best ever, but it's not that bad. Even if it were perfectly transferred and encoded, it still wouldn't be winning any awards for the picture quality.

Ha! nope. TDK had many problems with the 2.40:1 transfer. the IMAX scenes were very good though. this is WB were talking about here, i dont expect LOTR pq to be flawless at all.

If they can get it to look anywhere near the picture quality of King Kong, then I'll be happy. Only problem is that King Kong was Paramount and LOTR is New Line/Waner.

I'll wait for the EE Blu's. I hate reissued releases with a damn passion. It's like you can't just be happy with one copy? C'mon!

The '76 Kong was Paramount. Peter Jackson's was with Universal.

Yeah same for me, I can't wait till 2011 =/ ... I'll be buying the TE as soon as is released hopefully around oct-dec 2009. Later on 2011 I'll be buying the EE, but I do really want to see this on blu ray and I want to own the movies as well.

A sucker like yourself is absolutely the best friend that the studios have, and the reason they double-dip on so many Blu Ray and dvd releases! I have no intention of buying the Theatrical versions with their by-the-numbers extra's etc and will hold out until the Extended Versions appear WHENEVER. Until then, the DVD's will do just fine, particularly Return Of The King, which has an outstanding R2 transfer.
