![]() LOTR trilogy isn't out yet, and Papa Johns certainly doesn't have a coupon for it. Last edited by Solok; 04-21-2009 at 03:04 PM. |

Don't give them too much credit. Other studios went Blu-Ray way before they did. This wasn't just Warner that made Blu-ray win. They just waited as long as they could to make the decision, so they automatically get the "hero credit".

The Blu-Ray discs, on the other hands, are bare bones -- they don't even come with trailers! -- and there is no information as to the release of the Extended Edition outside of "sometime around the release of The Hobbit", which is currently skedded to hit screens late Fall of 2012. It's not the same thing at all. |

But they did make the decision that tipped the scales. If you don't want to give them hero credit, at least give them that credit.

Yeah, that's exactly what I mean. Give them that credit. Aside from glorious BDs like The Adventures of Robin Hood, I'll always give credit to Warner Bros. for flipping. Why not? It's history.

countless times ive heard, "i want lord of the rings" on blu-ray and now that it is coming out many people are complaining that its only the theatrical versions, did you honestly think the extended versions would be released first? or alongside the theatrical? I would sure hope not, you know somebody is going to want their pockets filled before releasing the extended versions because they know if they wait long enough people will buy this to hold them over and then buy the extended and they make twice the money.

Personally, I'd probably be more at ease if the situation was handled like the initial releases, with the theatrical and extended announced at the same time. Jackson built up enormous goodwill with the online communities, and this served his series well. (these dialogues even changed the course of the films, with Arwen's scenes deleted from the Helm's Deep sequences of The Two Towers, after fans protested with great vitriol). The series is over, Jackson won't return to helm the final book, and I wonder if he's as connected to the fanbase as he once was, because now it looks like he's taking them for granted. The Peter Jackson of 2002, needing support and continued success to complete the trilogy, never would have risked angering his fan base with a similar decision. But there it is. He's off on The Lovely Bones and a CGI Tintin movie. And he may no longer have the same control over the home video releases as he once did when New Line was kissing his perdel. But regardless, the fact remains. Jackson would never have made this decision in 2002. |

1. I've read nothing that indicates to me they are going to wait for The Hobbit to hit theaters. The only reliable information (i.e. seems to come from Peter Jackson) says that the EEs will be release closer to the release of The Hobbit, not close to the release. Any time after the release of the TE Blu-rays would fit that description. 2. It would stupid for them to wait that long. 3. A more intelligent "cross-promotion" scheme would be to use the EE releases to put out the first early trailers for The Hobbit. And the best way to do that would be to release the EE of each film separately over the period between the release of TEs and The Hobbitt. |

how does everyone watch these movies?
like, if you feel like watching one you watch it or do you have to watch all three in order and do you have to watch them back to back (not necessarily RIGHT after another but within a close time span) im a little OCD when it comes to watching trilogies like this and pirates of the caribbean i have to watch them in order if i am going to watch one i am going to watch them from the first to the last and all within a couple of days thats why i wait until i have a few days with enough free time to watch these movies |
