And speaking of the Ridgecrest/China Lake film location area, you’ll remember a certain actor’s fixed wing aircraft that is not a jet and which I posted earlier in the thread pictured last winter further up north – https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...1#post16651809

well, last September it was here doing this –

I think some of the locals got this message which I doled out hours before the flyover by the Hornet and they took advantage of it, for example…..https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...e#post15701661

this scene was shot passing thru a nice neighborhood in coastal San Pedro having a fine ocean view - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...e#post16544288
and for up north in the Lake Tahoe area of California with a certain mountain in the background which also served as a backdrop setting to another film location for Top Gun: Maverick, there are winter as well as summer challenges for visitors like so -

So say you.
I'll only really believe that excuse if you've got a pic of yourself caressing the pole.

And although the scenes are more westerly based, a shout out to TPS at Pax River, since they’re the gateway to a developmental test squadron like that at NAWS China Lake - https://soundcloud.com/navairsyscom/...t-pilot-school

HDR on older films is a funny thing. Normally I am completely against anything remotely revisionist, but not so with HDR. Often it feels like you are seeing more of what the director intended even though you aren’t. Why is that?
HDR on Die Hard or Alien really enhances the experience of the film even though it is something that has been added at a later stage. Again, why is that?

Because home video never captured the range inherent in film in the first place.

The SMPTE 196M standard specifies screen brightness for cinemas, as 55 candela per square meter (16 foot lamberts), open gate (no film in the projector, just white light).

That depends on which film format was used for both the camera and the projector. I believe that the original 3 Strip Technicolor process came damn close.

Maybe because a higher scan is going to show the actual film master more clearly?
If it was shot on film, meaning we’re going to see all that grain now.
...The grain of films.

despite some older film stocks not having quite 13.5 stops of Vision 3 - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...s#post13803728

the source was always compressed/squished into to a smaller dynamic range (than that capable of what celluloid can capture and what the human visual system can see) by the time you’ve viewed thee older movies be it either on TV or the theater in past years….until Dolby Vision arrived on scene

LordoftheRings, have we broken thru the 200,000 views for July yet?, as today is the last day to do so. Heck, just from the last few pages we’ve posted enough illustrative pics to make a photo album.
