Well, the doors of hobbits' homes are described as round in the books IIRC.

June 25, 2020. But Bill Hunt at Digital Bits doubts they'll be scanned and ready by then, particularly since 2021 is the 20th Anniversary of Fellowship.

I agree but what a joy it was to watch them at the theater in 60fps HFR.

It's interesting though that he assumes that they're going to go back and make new 4K DI's from the original negatives. It's really not common to do this, even for UHD releases, especially for films with a heavy amount of CGI like these.

It would be awesome, and if any film series deserves that royal treatment, it's Lord of the Rings. But I wouldn't be shocked if they just upscaled the 2K DI's and regraded them for HDR like most 2K films. Either way, I'd be interested in seeing if Fellowship loses that blanket tint it got for the Blu-Ray transfer.

Let's just forego 4K and go with The Lego Movie: LOTR!

It was never below $45.00, so $52.00 (including tax) is still a good price for it brand new from Amazon or Best Buy. You may be able to find a used one on ebay for just a few dollars cheaper, but won't know the condition its in until you receive it.

If you’ve waited this long, you might want to consider waiting a little while longer for the inevitable 4k release.
Of course you could always buy the 4k discs cheap(when they release) and pop them in this nice set, IF a 4k set isn’t released right away.
Basically a lot of options here, which is always a good thing.

Yea i thought they dont show lightning deals & stuff like that so wasnt sure if $45 was really the low.

I have it already see my collection - its a possible gift.

The Extended Boxset Trilogy? I'm 95% sure it's been around $25 a few times -- lightning deals, Prime Day, etc. Probably a few dollars less if you include non-Amazon

Realize there have been a couple of different boxes -- the 2011 set with the wraparound flap/magnetic closure, Digital Codes of some sort, with Black cases and 2012 with a slightly different box design (Std slipcase with Blue cases). Honestly I think there was even a 3rd set with a slightly thinner cheaper cardboard slipcase like the ALIEN ANTHOLOGY did several years after release
