Yes I can use that time to take a bathroom break, but I would rather have the convenience of deciding on my own when to pause the movie. I own all of the previous dvd editions of the movies so the extras contained in this set are of no added value to me. I love the extended editions of these films, but it looks like for the time being I will be sticking with my theatrical blu rays and my dvd's of the extended editions.
I seriously hope you are not refusing to buy this set because you have to change the discs during playback. You say you are going to keep your EE dvds, but you do know that you do have to change the disc for those also?

I just don't know how to respond to that other than to just shake my head in disappointment.

I've heard weirder reasons not to upgrade. At least he isn't saying that "DVD is good enough". That just bothers me.

6.1 DTS-HD-MA, same as the TE's. What you're referring to is a lossy codec, and these aren't going to be like that at all.

Extended editions in hi-def. What's not to love? I'm convinced most people in these forums will never be satisfied no matter what.

LOL, if you think that some people here on the LOTR side won't be satistifed then you should see the group of clowns (yours truly included in said circus) on the Star Wars side of the fence. Its hellfire and brimstone over there...

I just pre-ordered this set. I wasn't going to because the theatrical versions suit me just fine, but the first film was so bland/dull looking on blu ray that when I saw 'remastered in 2K' I had to make the switch. I don't mind having to use two blu rays for the films, the DVDs were like that too. However....

The only issue I have is it seems sort of wasteful to use DVDs for the supplements (something you guys have discussed to death here). It would be a 9 disc set if they just sucked it up and put all the supplements on Blu Ray disc. I guess they just want to make the package appear more massive and using DVDs will do that. Just not really sure its such a necessary step is all.

I'll but this set for sure. I already have the first TE release, but i don't care, i like both version of the movie.

I wonder why they are remastering only FOTR, and not TTT and ROTK. I wonder if the remaster will produce a better PQ than what we have on ROTK now, or if it will be on par with ROTK.

I'm on the fence about the DVD supplements. I would like new HD stuff, but the old stuff is great so I'm not complaining about what's included. I like the fact that it's on a DVD because my PS3 will actually upscale it. I dislike because it takes up so much space, but the early pictures of the set seem to offset that with small case sizes.

That being said, the photos of the set still don't say much. Are they really going to come in those bland cases? What are the pamphlets for? Do the paper pamphlets hold the discs? Honestly, there was never a better DVD release than the LOTR EE and the packaging had a lot to do with it - they need to go back to that imo.

Movies 2 and 3 were mastered completely digitally in the first place. They're already sourced from the 2K files. (though i wouldn't be surprised if the hideous DNR was gone, since it's not inherent to the masters judging by the HDTV broadcasts)
1 was not entirely digital, so the transfer was made from a film interpositive, with a lot more quality loss. That's why you see telecine wobble during the intro titles in the first film and they're rock-steady on 2 and 3.

Ugh. ALL these DVD's instead of placing the same material on 3 Blu-Rays. It seems to me they did this on purpose in order to charge more for the set and get away with it. Personally, I only want the Extended Editions and that's all since I already have the DVD's with most all these special features in this set. I waited for the EE on Blu-Ray because I have no desire for the theatrical cuts. I may just buy them separately. I don't like how they put this set together. It seems ridiculous to me.

being split on BD is a joke. Look at King Kong it is over 3 hours long and has a PiP track and the PQ is top notch

Exactly and whats worse is that the King Kong Blu-Ray had 10 gigabytes of free space. As I said this is a 15 disc set that should have been a 6 disc set.

If the information spread out over two discs doesn't take up at least 51 GB+, there will be no point to split it. I guess we'll all find out in a couple months.

I can't believe they removed the word limited from the packaging! This is BULLSHIT!!! I want mine to say LIMITED Extended Edition and not just Extended Edition!

I just wanted to vent my frustration over something asinine too

Is this why it's limited, you can't buy them after May 24th?

Everyone should agree with this post! Why on earth would you buy the same thing over and over again? Its perfectly logical to buy a BD that you already own on DVD because it is a different product. Buying the same DVD's you already own is folly. I have the DVD set and have no use for anything other than a BD version of the EE. No thanks Jackson!
