I hope I'm not venturing to far off topic, but has anyone here read "The Road to Middle-Earth" by Tom Shippey? I noticed some were looking to learn more about the books. I've been reading it and the more I read the more Tolkiens genius come through. The man had a love and knowledge of words unlike anything I've ever seen. Its astounding. I, also, discovered something me and Tolkien have in common which was really cool. All around its a good book if anyone is interested in the deeper structures of this story and how it came to be. Warning, though, the first 50 pages are mostly setting up the ideas and can be dry in spots, but the rest is great stuff. Sorry if that was off topic.

Well it appears that the 'Extened Edtions' will be in theaters in June also along with the release of the Blu-rays.
- The Fellowship of the Ring (Extended Edition) on June 14th 2011 - The Two Towers (Extended Edition) on June 21st 2011 - The Return of the King (Extended Edition) on June 28th 2011. Now why the heck would they do that? ![]() http://www.theonering.net/torwp/2011...he-big-screen/ |

I agree. AMC isn't in Canada - not in the majority of cities anyways. I'd love to be able to go see these in the local theater. There's nothing like LOTR on a big screen!

From 'The Hunt for the Ring' in Unfinished Tales:
'It is noted that the Black Captain did not know whether the Ring was still in the Shire; that he had to find out. The Shire was too large for a violent onslaught such as he had made on the Stoors; he must use stealth and as little terror as he could, and yet also guard the eastern borders. Therefore he sent some of the Riders into the Shire, with orders to disperse while traversing in it; and of these Khamul was to find Hobbiton, where 'Baggins' lived, according to Saruman's papers. But the Black Captain established a camp at Andrath, where the Greenway passed in a defile between the Barrow-downs and South Downs; and from there some others were sent to patrol the eastern borders, while he himself visited the Barrow-downs. In notes on the movements of the Black Captain at that time it is said that the Black Captain stayed there for some days, and the Barrow-wights were roused, and all things of evil spirit, hostile to Elves and Men, were on watch with malice in the Old Forest and the Barrow-downs.' Therefore, he was very close to Bombadil's house, but did not go there; Goldberry would more than likely not have been as amorous to him. ![]() |

I'm thinking about doing it. But the price you pay for all three you own the bluray! I might just go see Return of the king
