The answer is simple guys. Don't buy.

I'm convinced that the bickering in this thread is an example of why we'll never have world peace. People just like to argue and hear themselves "talk." Just buy the set and enjoy it for what it is, or don't. It's really not that big a deal.

If everybody acted like that the studios would see no need to even invest any work into their product. Meaning everybody will lose.

I'm sure PJ is being told to wait until after the release date to comment so day one sales aren't affected. A 2 disc recall out of the entire box set isn't bad I'm sure the studio could afford to do it afterwards.

I'm not saying that studios shouldn't invest time, money, and energy into their films to make them the best they can be, but people who haven't seen these BDs have already made up their mind whether they can or cannot accept the new color timing and contrast issues. If that's the case, don't buy it. Argue about any number of MGM catalogue titles that have been released recently and have been much more offensive than LotR.

Controversy aside, Ken did a fantastic job reviewing these films. He definitely gets my nomination to review the Star Wars sets when they arrive.

I'll wait until the product is in my hand before I judge it.

I'm sorry but youtube clips and compressed screenshots are not true sources.

True, but they do show the relative differences to the previous release - and we can compare those screenshots with what we see on our TV and then draw some conclusions.

Well, there day one sales should be affected...if people are patient enough.

Yep awesome review by Ken. Truly impressive review he has done. Also now it is almost a SURE thing that this is what PJ wants FOTR to look like now. This new transfer is impressive to say the least. Now the movie look more rich and the detail for all the movies now is stunning. Which FOTR TE missed the first time around but now PJ has made FOTR look marvelous with his new version. There is no doubt in my mind anymore that THIS is what PJ approved and its on the EE BD.

An educated guess might be: amusement, perhaps mixed with apprehension - as he leaned towards pacifism. It is unfortunate that genuine Tolkien experts such as his son Christopher, and his biographers Wayne G. Hammond and Christina Scull probably never view forums such as this, because I would love to see their comments.
As I skim through these posts, it makes me wonder how many of these folks who are complaining about the changes in color would get upset at us bookworms because we don't like the changes in the story from the book?

I guess the word "expert" means diferent things to different people. When GrandBob talks about experts like Hammond and Scull, and Tokien's son, he is talking about people who are on a different level than people who simply "know a lot". Perhaps "Tolkien Scholar" is a better term for the three GrandBob mentioned.

You should look up Hammond and Scull. Colbert isn't in their league. And just because C. Lee read the books a lot, isn't the same either. I've read the books a lot. So has GrandBob.

100% certain that what is on the EE BD and Theatrical presentation is the one and the same just like PJ said at theater screenings. There is actually no doubt anymore.

I mean come on look at the gorgeous screenshots really think a error was made here
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-L...9/#Screenshots

There is no doubt PJ intended version is what is on the EE BD and running in the theaters now

There is no color issue - PJ approved this new version of FOTR and it is WAY better then the TE. This is what PJ WANTS the movie to look like. You can take it or leave it.

Exactly. These are FACTS many former HD DVD supporters still don't understand.

Lord of the Rings extended would not look and sound this good on HD DVD because of those constraints.

Default "Charter Member" credits...?

Long time lurker... finally found something worthy of your time to ask.

Does this bluray release retain the "Fan Club Charter Members"-credits following the proper end credits of each film?

Hoping it does... expecting it won't.
