Apparently not. I have learned to just tune out that immature BS at this point.

Man, I'll be ticked if Warner puts a green tint on the Citizen Kane BD!

I do agree that this IS an expensive set at $83 which contains old dvds packed in for extras.

I fully expect that when I actually SEE the video quality that I will be quite pleased and will just laugh at those who SWEAR this must be an error.
Well, the theatrical trilogy was released in April 2010 and the individual release came in September 2010. I've decided to wait for the individual releases as well, don't like the price and don't like the old DVDs packed in for extras. Well, I like them, but I've already bought them once.

And hope this doesn't come across in the wrong way, but I sure wish you'd go back to your Federer thing, that dude in your avatar is fugging ugly. I know, he's the dude from the Mavericks, but he's still fugly.

Back on topic, I think the in the comparison shots are blubrew the EE FOTR looks better than the TE in most shots. I think folks who think Warner will be doing a replacement program will be waiting a long, long time.

Well if it is defective (and I dont think it is) and Warner decides to NOT do a replacement then I will be pissed.

I am one of those people who believes COMPLETELY in waiting for ALL of the facts before making a judgement on something.

Right now we still do not have the important facts on FotR and I am suggesting that people wait until we get that.

Thats all.

Glad I checked in here. Going to cancel my pre-order. I gather that no one really knows yet whether this green tint was a mistake or not, but nobody seems to be disputing that there IS a green tint throughout the movie. Pretty much my favorite shot of FOTR is the close-up of the ring lying in the brilliant white snow where Frodo drops it, right before Boromir picks it up. I'd rather stick with my extended DVDs and their less than perfect - yet perfectly satisfactory - PQ, then have that shot ruined by green-tinted snow.

Hopefully, this is an error, and corrected editions will be released: I'll pick it up then.

I think Harris makes a good point though; the shots are not always green. As other members here have pointed out, there is often a cyan or teal push instead - and sometimes it looks like the colours are more natural than they were before (particularly in Rivendell imho). This is what I've noticed in the screenshots, of course, but I would like to believe they're fairly accurate captures of what the film in motion will look like.

I think that Toasterlad clearly expressed the sentiments of many people here, at least it does mine. It doesn't matter if it was intentional or if it was a mistake. What matters is that many, if not most, of us didn't like it, and we would like to see it returned to the original palette. So I agree with the voice of reason of some and suggest that we all wait and see what's going to happen. This was never going to be a day one purchase for me. I was going to wait until (if) they released the films without the bonus DVDs (which I already have), or at least until a significant price drop (which we all know will happen), but if the actual discs are anywhere near the samples we've seen I too will stick to the DVDs.

That about sums it up for me as well. Only reason I care to see if this was intentional or not is so we can put closure to this part of the "discussion". No matter if this is deliberate or a mistake though, its flat out ugly to my eyes and a return to the palette we have been watching for nearly 10 years now as an option at least would be so nice and would put me firmly back in the "buy it" mind set since right now I am very much up in the air hoping for some sort of statement that a disc exchange will be happening.

This is because unlike a silent black and white film (like was used an example in that parody review) where the green is obvious due to it being over a neutral image (black and white) when you have a shot that was once overtly warm with a strong red bias and you insert the new green color timing the shot will appear to balance out and the green will be far less noticeable. That is why the green is so much easier to notice over a neutral background, like white or gray snow... or any white in the film (the logo, the fade-to-white scene, etc.). In scenes that were once purposefully warm it is far less noticeable.... like what I was saying in response to this:

It's a general response to those who, upon reading his actual review and not liking what he said --- starting calling him a corporate shill, a sellout, and a whole slew of other attacks on his character.

Edit: RAH wasn't the first of the reviewers who, upon completing their review were attacked and had people try to question their integrity. The same people who days earlier where saying "Wait until _____ reviews it" and then the moment their review came out and it didn't say what certain individuals were hoping it would, they attacked.

RAH just seems to be the first to respond with a sense of humor (while others haven't responded at all)
RAH's sarcasm isn't the juvenile example. The juvenile examples would be all the name calling towards him, that he was responding to with sarcasm.

I checked mine today and it has not shipped either. I just hope I don't get the "backordered" status on the release date like I did for the Superman Anthology.

Exactly.

Oh and since we've lost another one (which brings my completely unofficial count up to 2 temporary bans and 4 suspensions), suggest everyone try a little harder to be civil and respectful of differing opinions.

Last edited by Velmeran; 06-20-2011 at 05:43 PM. Reason: Added temporary to the bans, as at least 1 is back.

I just wish WHV or Jackson would make an official statement. As someone who's done PR work, I think the quicker a controversy can be addressed, the better.
