Maybe WB already fixed the issue and quietly shipping the new pressing to retailers? Who knows maybe they realized this and started working on it just after they send the review discs?

Just got back from the Theatrical Presentation of the extended Two Towers in SLC.

First of all... incredible!!

Secondly... Peter Jackson said in the intro that Two Towers & Return of the King HAVE been remastered for this release.

Lastly, however... I swear the last 20-25 minutes of the movie had a very strong discernible green tint to the picture. Haven't seen it in the theaters since it was first released back in 2002, so... maybe it's been there all along. One thing's for sure, it was definitely there tonight.

Of course he cannot make any screencaps, can he?
May be WB are really shipping a corrected version, or is this guy a WB's special agent?

The green tint doesn't really bother me. To me it looked fine. The movies could be black and white for all I care, i'd still love them.

So I was looking at the comparison shots on the BluBrew review which is where this infamous cap comes from:



And I do think this shot and the snow ones look worse but just about all of the rest of the shots look better and not imposingly green and/or blue.
For example this shot from the theatrical version looks as oppressively orange as the above shot looks oppressively green:



And this time with the new color timing in the Extended Edition it is the one that looks far more natural and better:



So I think people are seeing a few shots that might not look as good and freaking out about them and cancelling pre-orders when as the BluBrew reviewer says "the good here greatly outweighs the bad."

Again, we're fine if the green tint selectively applied for artistic purpose, but it seems they just do it for the whole movie, hence the greenish titles, snow and sky.

Doubt it's shipping multiple versions. Doubt he's lying.

Some people just won't be as sensitive to it as others. Some will complain, some will wonder what the complaints are all about. Remember, so many people did not see the DNR in the TE presentation. It's unique to every pair of eyes.

Well if you compare these shots, the new color grading gives his face a more "yellowish" tint, which makes it seem warmer to my eyes. This is one instance though where I don't really prefer one over the other.

That scene with the hobbits with Bill looks like PJ changed the colors around to make it look like it takes place later in the day..

I'm glad they toned down the orange in Rivendell. I never realized it was so colorful.

Scenes within the Matrix were not originally all green-tinted, and none were severely green-tinted. Not when the film screened theatrically, nor on the original DVD. They added the green push on the Special Edition DVD, and it's carried over to all subsequent iterations. It was done to make the first film look more like the sequels. It was every bit as revisionist as what's been done to Fellowship, but there was never this level of ranting about it.

It wasn't a change that I was up in arms about.

What if it turns out Jackson is trying to match Fellowship to his intended look for The Hobbit? Is it then acceptable to change the timing, or is it only acceptable if it's done to match a film to sequels, not prequels?

One of my favorite parts in the story of The Lord of the Rings is when Frodo comes to the city of Minas Morgul. I was not sure if this would be in the movie or not. I was very happy when I saw this in the movie. In the book this happens in The Two Towers and in the movie this happens in The Return of the King.

But they didn't alter the entire movie to look green and the reasoning was clear.

Here that's not the case. Each single shot is tinted green and no official comment yet.

Plus, LOTR is a lot more popular...

I really don't understand why there wasn't a bigger uproar. I was furious when I saw it. I only became aware of the change when I bought the Blu-ray. It looks just awful. I watched it with a friend that night, and she asked "why is Neo's hair green?"

The original version looked perfect for the story. It gave you the sense that something was not quite right, but it wasn't in your face about it. I only watched the Blu-ray once. I now always watch the DVD.

Why not recolor 2 and 3 to match the first movie?

To be clear, I wasn't upset because it was revisionism. I was upset because it looked terrible.

Perhaps this is some kind of Barrie Osborne curse.
