Even though LotR may not be reference quality video, it is very colorfully diverse, and I would love to hear the lossless 6.1 discreet DTS-MA. I personally thought that the EE DVD sounded much better than the TE DVD. |

Has anyone attended the theatrical screenings of the extended editions so far? Reason I'm asking is because I'm pretty sure that these are the editions that we will be playing in our bluray players next week and I must say FOTR and Two Towers looked phenomenal! I didn't notice any abnormal green tints in FOTR. I poked fun in some of my past posts, but seriously, the films look sensational so far... I hope Peter Jackson's introductions are included. He does mention the bluray set coming out next week in the intros, so pretty sure what we see on the screen at the show will be what we get on the blurays!

![]() The tint is there when the film is playing, and looks just as it appears in the screenshots. The difference is that the screenshots are being viewed in browser windows where crisp whites are everywhere, and screenshot comparisons are a click away to show how the tint affects certain colors. When the film is in motion, it's much more difficult to discern the tint unless you know exactly what to look for. Even then, it's the more problematic scenes that have the potential to be distracting. Not the entire film. (The most noticeable instance IMO is when the Hobbits try to stop for second breakfast as Aragorn prods them to keep moving. The snow and skintones are noticeably tinted. But even that may have a bit of intention to it, as the next scenes find the Hobbits descending into murky, intentionally swampy-hued swamps and other locales as night falls.) The reason many are reporting they aren't seeing the tint is because without a pure white reference or original color reference, it can be difficult to see the tinting in a dark viewing environment. It's difficult to unsee too, though, meaning those it bothers will be bothered throughout the film while those it doesn't bother will not be bothered throughout the film. That doesn't make it any more director's intention or any more an error, it's just the nature of a slight color tinting discrepancy. We'll have to wait for Warner or Jackson to address the tinting before drawing any further conclusions. Last edited by Ken Brown; 06-23-2011 at 04:01 AM. |

Of course, at this point, I don't plan to buy it. But my friend that is a LOTR expert is absolutely getting it (he's aware of the green tint controversy). I plan to go to his house to view (portions) of FOTR on his 65" LED-backlit Samsung on Tuesday or Wednesday. Then I can make my decision. With Best Buy having a pretty decent price, I can afford to wait and not worry about placing and order with Amazon. Mark |
