I honestly don't care if Peter Jackson himself knocks on my door and says, "Hey, y'know, this green tint is exactly what I want in the movie." George Lucas told me that he always wanted Greedo to shoot first. I still consider it a defect.

I don't want green snow. I'm not alone in feeling that way. To pretend that that's not an issue just because some Warner Brothers dude issues a vague statement to the effect of "All is well! Nothing to see here! Totally okay to buy this product! Ignore the controversy!" is just dumb. A lot of people won't buy this set in the condition it's being released. Enough to make anybody actually take notice? Maybe not. But we're not not buying the set to make a point. We're not buying the set because we don't want to watch FotR with a crappy green tint over it. That's it. That's all it comes down to.

Good for you if all you need is someone telling you that you will like the film. You will likely be very happy not forming your own opinions very often. Some people are more discriminating. Why does it bother you so much that those people have higher standards than you? You're getting the set you're being told you want. You should be happy.
Have you watched it yet? If not why not give it a try and form your own opinion.

This sort of self-appointed internet-authority is absurd. RAH has a history with film that predates your birth. He's contributed to the HT community in untold ways for over a decade. He's also a person of professional and personal integrity.

On my 7.1 system the TE's are DTS HD MA 6.1 ES Matrix on both players displays. I am also curious about any perceived differences with the new EE DTS HD MA 6.1 Discrete audio, if anyone would care to comment.

For those in denial, I feel your pain, but it is embarrassing to watch you twisting in the wind.

I am now convinced that the EEs released tomorrow are exactly as the filmakers intended and have placed my order with Amazon. TEs will be passed along to family.

I've been backing you Bill. You had our backs with the whole Gladiator debacle and I do appreciate that. People loved you for that but now that you bring us the news they didn't want to hear, you're considered not credible. I and many others know you're a straight shooter and you're on our side. Keep up the good work.

Once again, it's still a vague rubber stamp. We already knew the filmmakers added new color grading and approved the disc, Bill said that a week ago. Now we know WB is not going to change anything. I still don't know whether the green tint was added specifically or is just there for some reason, like the DP-approved jaggies on the Braveheart disc.
Rest assured that Bill Hunt was privy to much more detail than he's able to share. However, WB permitted him to quote them using their official statement that had passed through PR-polish. That's how corporations work. Because it's coming from Bill and because we know he has candid off-the-record conversations with all the parties involved, rest assured that when he says it's confirmed that it reflects Jackson's intentions, it does.

Is it just me or did everyone know that the actual movie was spread across 2 discs?

Won't be watching them until Saturday (11 hour marathon FTW)
i really love the fold-out map. i never keep packaging (even for box sets) but between the map and the black cases i don't see me ever getting rid of this one. and it's so much smaller than the EE DVD packages. the only thing i miss is the sketches on the inside of each fold-out of the EE DVD packaging. but at least the disc art is basically the same.

For those who already have it, is the box the same height as the Bourne Box set? My shelves can fit that box set and I want to be sure that they can fit this set as well.

It's hardly self appointed. It's only good thinking. In this day and age of constant greed, corruption and lies, anybody who thinks you can just trust an "official" source is just outright naive. Seriously, you have WB and Jackson working together, it's just a bit too cozy.....a bit too much into conflict of interest for John Q Pulblic to ever expect the truth. And just because that opinion differs from yours doesn't make it any less mature.

Ok, well in my opinion this keeps getting stranger and stranger.

I was just watching TV and on comes a commercial for the EE blu-rays. The commercial starts talking about how this fan favorite version looks better than ever before, however, the only shots in the entire commercial from FOTR that last longer than a quarter of a second or are recognizable as being from FOTR at all are 2 brief shots taken from the EE DVD and used to show how the old DVDs looked. Then it switches to a scene from ROTK and uses that as the wipe to HD. From that point on, every single scene that is used to show the superior HD quality is taken from either TT or ROTK ... with one single exception. It seems to briefly show a snippet from the scene near the end of FOTR where Frodo is on top of Amon Hen while wearing the ring, and I would swear that at the very least the contrast was back to normal, even though the overall darkness of the "ring-on" scenes makes the green tint harder to judge.

I can't even be sure it was this scene from FOTR, because it's so brief and something about the shot didn't seem to match the Amon Hen shot (does he put it on again before end of ROTK?), but that in itself is saying something. How do you do a commercial on the blu-ray extended trilogy and spend only a total of about 5 seconds showing scenes from FOTR and have even those taken from the DVD release instead of blu, and then spend the entire rest of the time jumping back and forth between TT and ROTK for your HD samples?

There's something very strange about that.
