Just got my copy and wow - I could've gotten this thing at no cost. First of all, my BB only got 8 in and they were all pre-orders so they said "No. Try Target." I went to Wal-Mart and they only had ONE. And it was like $84.99. I asked the cashier if they priced matched BB, and he said yes and asked for the price. He didn't check a sales ad, call the store, NOTHING. So, he manually enters 69.99 just based on my word and then I had a Verizon GC with about $33.00 left on it. The scanner wouldn't accept it, so he ASKED me how much was on the card and entered it. LOL! Oh well, I was honest and kept my integrity. But still... Wal-Mart needs to watch their cashiers.

If you haven't pre-ordered and can put up with green tint Borders has a 50% off list price coupon for blu rays good today through Thursday. LOTR lists for 120 at Borders so its a good deal, assuming the coupon works on boxed sets. I didn't try it myself because my pre-order's already been delivered today but I didn't see any fine print that excluded boxed sets, so, have at it and happy hunting...

Hobbiton looks more natural. The color of the hills and grass look exquisite and accurate. We should only be focusing on the sky, though, and ignoring the obstacles blocking sunlight at Bag End's entrance.

So the box set is around $65, but you'd pay $60 for 3 individual releases?

Hi Karlosfunkster,

I may well rent FOTR at some point to be absolutely sure, but I don't expect the result will look any different than what I have now.

Take care,
HeKS

Can anyone here give me an estimate of how many copies were available at best buy today. I am very excited about getting the set but there is a large chance that I won't be able to buy it until Saturday. Thank you.

It just goes to show that director revisions CAN be a good thing.

I just received my set from Amazon in perfect condition, and wow: it is a HANDSOME set! It's going to be a prize possession in my collection. I can't wait to revisit these!

Just got back to work from Best Buy, and another agonizing 3.5 hours until I get to watch it!

Got it for $59.99 after the $5 coupon (which luckily still works at my local BB) and a RWZ certificate, so I'm pretty happy with that. $64 after tax and out the door.

at the BB i went to at noon, they had about 20 BB exclusive editions and about 20 standard editions on the floor. they also had about 10 of each behind the customer service desk for people with pre-orders. i'm sure they had even more in the back of the store.

I dont think there is any possible way anyone can answer that.

Obviously I cant guarantee this, but if you can only get it on saturday then its very unlikely that Best Buy will be sold out. Is Best Buy the only place you can buy it? Walmart will likely have it for the same price or less. I would be VERY shocked if you live in an area that has a Best Buy but not a Walmart.

one thing you can do is check Bestbuy.com and use the "check store availability" option.

Yeah, they filmed pickups for all three films for the TE and EE, so the principal photography was what 18 months, but they still spent quite a bit more time in NZ... Man I can't wait to my hands on this tonight... oh and I was just bustin your chops merrick, I didn't mean to sound like an @$$ :P

I watched the Hobbiton scene on the digital copy. People really wanted that blandness in HD?

I'm certain that colour information got lost along the way but its certainly better than the release as it is now. All the more reason to push for a replacement scheme.

Btw, haven't forgotten about the Isengard scene, just haven't got round to checking out that scene regraded with your settings. I suspect though that the reddish/pink tint will make the scene more 'neutral', the flesh tones will look more normal and in a certain way look better, but as i've said before in one of my last posts, that extra reddish/pink will adversely affect other scenes like Frodo and Galadriel in Lothlorien, making her face pink rather than blue because the grading is very subtle there and making the hobbits all have very red faces during Bilbo's intro of Hobbiton. If ones using just one grading setting, one has to reach a compromise, which is what i've done. It's far from perfect, but I'm happy, I believe it to be a big improvement on the blu-ray colourwise and ultimately that's all that matters.
Hey KingKong,

Did your color adjustments just account for the green tint or did you also correct the contrast problem? Also, what did you use to do your regrading?

Anyone else buy the Theatrical Cuts back when they were released, as well as the Extended Editions today? I remember the big deal everyone made because they released the theatrical cuts first lol

Some BB's have stopped accepting the coupons on sale priced items, from what i've read on some other posts in that coupon thread.

Oh... I see... when I look at my coupon that printed it just says Save $5.00 on a DVD or Blu-ray priced $14.99 or higher... doesn't say anything about sale priced stuff... even in the disclaimer...

I'm not sure either, but it's worth a try!
