So, if it would make sense to change the coloring of FOTR to match The Hobbit, it would also makes sense, a fortiori, to make the same changes to the coloring of TT and ROTK to match both FOTR AND The Hobbit. HeKS |

I noticed that at the theater as well and I didn't like it either. When I watched some of the Blu-ray today, I noticed another bit I didn't like: When Bilbo fiddles in his pocket looking for the ring, the image looks dark and murky.

I'm going to respond to the reply you made to my post that this is taken from, but before I do, can you clarify something for me? What are you meaning to say in that statement I've bolded above? Do you mean to suggest that they WERE as careful this time as they were originally, or do you mean to suggest that they WERE NOT as careful this time around? Take care, HeKS |

I'm watching FOTR as I type this and I think it looks great so far, amazing detail present. I have only noticed the green tint a couple of times. The first place it did really stand out to me was the title. The words looked like a bright lime green to me. But overall I can't really complain, not as bad as I had feared...I'm not to any snow scenes yet, however.

I also purchased the set today. The LOTR theme wouldn't stop playing in my head. I was forced into it!
The green is noticeable to me. I'm glad that most people aren't having an issue with it, but it is definitely there. My solution was going through and creating a new user setting on the TV for it. I cranked down the green, slightly lowered the blue, and boosted the red. It really made a difference. I used the shot of the ring on the snow as my base, leaving the snow slightly blue-tinted. Losing the green helped the slight underexposure and brought out more detail that I didn't see with the original calibrated settings. I'm annoyed that there probably won't be a genuine fix as WBHV is saying that it is Jackson's preferred version, but I'm happy with the user setting fix. FOTR looks fantastic this way. |

But you guys were right. I think it's a class move you posting over here after all the things that have been directed your way in this thread. Props to you on that. |

I'm willing to accept as a reasonable possibility that shire is intended to look slightly different between FOTR and ROTK. The reason you suggest is one that occurred to me as well. That said, when I posted a comparison of the two it was directly in response to someone's claim that the two scenes looked "exactly the same" and that this went a long way to explaining the new green tint applied throughout FOTR, which was apparently for the purpose of matching the FOTR shire to the ROTK shire. I mean, that doesn't even make any sense in principle if you think about it (why apply a tint to the whole film for the purpose of adjusting only 10 minutes of it?), but that's what was claimed and that's what I was responding to. Still, I don't think the same argument could reasonably be made about the different look and levels of detail in the conversation between Elrond and Aragorn in the garden of Rivendell that is split between FOTR and TT. Take care, HeKS |
