However, regarding the "WHY" aspect of your post, "WHY" would they have all the others editions 'wrong' and 'only' this edition 'right?' Money. Why invest the money in the first set of BDs when they announced this EE set straight from the get go? It would make more sense, financially speaking, to do a decent job and get the theatrical version out there so the people who wanted them could buy them up. I never bought the TEs, knowing the EEs would be out eventually, though I did double dip on the dvd's. As for why the dvds would be allowed to remain 'wrong,' I can't say. I can only guess, again, at Money (at the time of the EEs they may not have wanted to bother since Blu Ray was either out, or around the corner). |

I'm having a great time re watching my EE's on dvd...no issues, great picture and sound..and it is the same movies but done with great care....who would have thought that this continuous failure to deliver the goods on blu would drive me back to dvd's
awesome picture..awesome sound...the LOTR TRILOGY EE's on DVD..the only true way to see these great films..and yes they have all the extras on dvd same as the blu set without feeling disappointed |

Yeah, so I watched a good chunk of Fellowship last night... and I barely noticed anything. I mean its pretty obvious that theres a green tint but absolutely nothing BOTHERED me... to the point of boycotting this release, so I'm happy I picked it up. Will DEFINITELY be enjoying this upcoming weekend.

There is nothing, especially within the realities of the Internet, that will allow you to "sit back and enjoy the film" unless you are willing to ignore all but the most egregious, mean-spirited and dis-informational posts. While you and I may agree, or not, as to some specifics, I must make the point that you have performed here with yeoman-like spirit and fortitude, doing your absolute best to field questions, to illuminate discussion and attempt to educate. The site is extremely fortunate to have you represent its interests. A long vacation, possibly in Tahiti, without links to the Web, is in order. Well done, sir! RAH |

It looked incredible! I think it´s great that the "holiday"-feeling(like a suntrip) of the movie is gone. I mean it was always to bright, it didn´t feel like they were in the middle-earth I visit reading the books anyway! I am more than pleased with the release! A little darker/greener, more like I see it in the books, and amazing detail.
Glad I didn´t cancel my order... Now give me The Hobbit! ![]() |

I started on FOTR last night. I watched the first 40 minutes. I may not have gotten far enough to the "teal" sections, but I didn't really notice anything out of the ordinary in the parts I watched. The sky looked blue.
The only instance of possibly a very slight teal tint was when the Ringwraith first asks about the ring. Other than that, everything looked normal to my eyes. |

I’ve been a long time lurker and finally registered this morning as I wanted to give my input on the LotR Extended blu-ray and finally just become a participator of the forums.
I’ve followed (most of) this giant thread on the green tint issue and have read more than one critic review on the subject, including Ken’s (great job!). I was very concerned on everything I was reading about this green tint problem and could also see it in the screenshots posted on this thread. So when I finally purchased my set yesterday, of course I took it home to see how ‘bad’ it would look to me. But I will say I was very pleasantly surprised! Knowing the green tint is there, I actually ‘looked’ for it and I actually found it very hard to see. Yes, I can tell there is a slight overall greenish hue (VERY slight), but I didn’t see any ‘green’ lettering on the title, I didn’t see any green in Gandalf’s beard, I didn’t see any green in Sauranam’s (sp?) pure white beard. Now, I haven’t gotten far enough in the movie to see any good shots of snow, but I feel pretty confident it won’t be obvious to me from what I have seen so far, at least not like it has looked liked on these stillshots on this thread. Now again, I was actually ‘looking’ for this green color, if I didn’t visit this thread or read the reviews, I am positive I would have never even noticed it. I will add the screenshots seen on this thread do NOT do the movie justice. In these screenshots, the green/teal/cyan is much more obvious, it is definitely not like that in the movie, at least from what I have seen. As I said, I haven’t watched the whole movie, only about the first 45 minutes. So when I eventually watch the rest (probably this weekend), I will comment further on it. |

But this was not a screw up there will be no replacement discs. Haven't you read that it was cleared by Peter Jackson himself. This is how he wants the movie to look. If another release comes out you can bet it is this one because this is Peter Jackson's preferred version |

HA HA HA, whatever. I just haven't gotten around to calibrating this set as I got it in December. All of my previous sets have been calibrated by the late Randy Tomlinson (RIP) so I know what I'm talking about. If you think my choice of sets is sub-par and therefore makes me an unreliable source of reporting what I'm seeing, then so be it.

The DVD set of EE's is so pretty and it's only worth about $10 selling back. My Walmart thinks the price of this set is $85! No one told them about $60. I also cling to the notion that I prefer the theatrical cuts because it's what I saw in theaters and you don't have to change the discs or watch it over a whole week. The new set will always be tempting me though. =Brian |

Did he approve them? Is it too much to expect a straight answer from Jackson? A "this is how I always wanted the films to look, sorry about the last 10 years" answer?

You guys are nuts.
I am wondering if the Canadian set is different then the US set as I don't notice a bad 'tint' in the movies. White is white, blue is blue, red is red and black is black. I watched disc 1 of TTT last night(finishing at about 3am) and boy is it awesome too. I really tried to watch for the image issues and I didn't see them. The color came out as I would expect.... ... there must be a color timing change however it doesn't change the fact of a fantastic picture. |
