Green tint perhaps? Any other probs? I don't give a shit about the color change I don't think. I'd like the price to be like 40 bucks though since they already got their money the first time around. (commence telling me about how no one forced me to buy the first ones (I didn't BTW) and it's the director's choice).
1) Certain scenes in FOTR are too dark.

2) There's an ugly green tint to many scenes throughout the movie. A tint that never existed in previous versions on disc.

This screen shot comparison is ACCURATE when viewed on my calibrated 70" display (directly from the EE Blu-ray and the TE Blu-ray).

Theatrical Blu-ray:

Extended edition Blu-ray:

My full report can be found here.

I know you only asked for the things that are pissing people off, but I'll also add this... When the image isn't too dark and when the green tint isn't noticeable, the image quality is AWESOME! Personally, I found about 30-35% of the movie to be annoyingly dark or annoyingly tinted. So, that's 65-70% of awesome image.

Mark

Interesting. It's amazing to me how they could screw this up. One of the most popular movies of the last 10 years, and the final release of it isnt perfect? Wow.

Thanks for going to the trouble Mark, but the fact remains that the green tint is only heightened by such comparrisons - the snow looks pretty much white when viewiing. We've been over this a million times. Even the reveiwer such as Ken state this. But I know you were adamant before watching that you were right, perhaps that's meant you were unable to enjoy the movie? Or did you enjoy it still?

Mark, I was really hoping you would not post this because this screenshot is the perfect example of how the film does NOT look in motion.

Here is the response I gave over on HTF and I am going to repeat it here.

I think everyone should watch these discs at my house, because I am ABSOLUTELY convinced that I have that magical calibration issue. My set displayed NONE of these issues and frankly it made me sick at my stomach at how overblown this issue got. The 2nd breakfast scene, which Mark has provided an image of looks NOTHING like the screenshot in motion. I examined that scene for a long time and the screenshot is misleading. Call it eye adaption or whatever, but that scene works just fine.

Again I will be more than happy to share my TV settings with anyone else. Maybe I can get a better calibration from ya'lls advice. I will say that I have my TV set in a way that makes gaming and movie watching look good. I do occasionally make minor tweaks when I switch between the two.

I have a Sony KDL-55EX710.

I really hope this post does not get me suspended, but I do feel that I have a right to point out misinformation when I see it and that screenshot represents the absolute worst of the screenshot misinformation out there. Its extremely unfortunate that people have to see this and then get the impression that is what that scene looks like when its so far from the truth it makes me sick to my stomach.

For the record, I am not attacking MEB, I am attacking the misrepresentation of that screenshot.

Objectively speaking, I don't think any of the movie is screwed up. Not even slightly.

I don't agree with you. There's plenty of scenes where it is too dark and underexposed. The opening with The Shire is a prime example of this. It's not a deal-breaker, but to say that it isn't screwed up even slightly seems a little inaccurate.

This from someone who is still happy with the release, but that's my opinion.

Totally cool that you don't like it in places, but to say it's screwed up, or incorrect is...incorrect (as far as we know).

However to say you preferred it another way is entirely up to the individual.

Just pointing out that to date we can't say ANY of the film is a mistake.

We shouldn't have to re-calibrate our TVs to enjoy a movie. From any accounts I've heard so far, if you want the trilogy to have a consistent look across all 3 films you will need different settings. In my opinion that's not acceptable, regardless if the movie isn't as bad as the screenshots show.

I agree completely, we shouldn't have to recalibrate our TV to enjoy a movie thats why I want to make it quite clear to you that I NEVER did recalibrate my screen. I watched it on the same settings that I always have had it on since I first calibrated it 6 months ago. I haven't seen a single post from that said they had to re-calibrate it to enjoy it.

I was just saying that maybe I got "lucky" and had it set to conditions that were perfect for viewing FotR. I paused the film at the scenes in question and looked for a while and it just simply was nowhere NEAR as exaggerated as those screenshots looked, and I have no problem calling those screenshots out as a blatant misrepresenation of the product when viewed in motion and under optimal viewing conditions. I can all but promise you that it will not appear anywhere close to that bad when you see it with open mind and aren't doing comparisons.

Im sorry but thats the truth

It doesnt look like it did when it was firstreleased, and it doesnt look as good. Seems to be the definition of screwed up to me.

I think its soooo sick how Jackson displayed everyone that in the LOTR's fan club. That alone took about 25mins lol.

Please don't reply to flamebait, personal attacks and other similar type of posts, report them. If you reply all you do you is prolong the problem, make everything harder to fix, and you'll become part of the "solution".

On my set, the green tint was extremely obvious. I did not have to pause the movie to see or notice the green tint. I am 100% confident I would have noticed it even if this controversy never came to light in advance of the release. And, BTW, my wife noticed it too.

On my JVC set, with my eyes, there is an ugly green tint. Period. I am happy for those of you that don't see it. I wish I didn't see it. Really I do.

Even with the green tint, I was able to enjoy the movie. It was my first time seeing the extended edition footage.

And, as I mentioned earlier, the thing that pulled me out of enjoying the movie MORE than the green tint was the excessive darkness of many scenes.

Mark
