I got the box in my hands now, and it's a beautiful little box. I aren't able to notice the green tint on my LG TV. In Germany we have blue amarays, that's the only reason why i'm a little bit disappointed.

We in Germany are really poor people. Something is wrong with the German sound, and so there will probably be an replacement of the six Blu-rays with the movies on it. But the english sound is good as well.

After watching the opening to The Two Towers, I have to reiterate my opinion that there is definitely something wrong with Fellowship. While it is the best I have ever seen Fellowship to this point, it is underexposed. It's not something you really notice when you are watching it, but the image is not as bright and sharp as it should be. I watched the end of Fellowship and then popped in Two Towers and was floored by how SHARP and BRIGHT the image was. It truly was like watching it for the first time!

(and by sharp, I mean that blacks are black and whites are white... a truly clear image. Fellowship has a great amount of added detail, but the low exposure muddies it up a little)

It's too bad that my television isn't able to fix Fellowship beyond the tint. It looks all right, but if it had looked like Two Towers, I would have given this set six out of five stars.

The problem is that on pretty much all of the 6.1 surround Dts tracks, the back of the blu-ray box does not list if it's discrete or matrixed,so as people are stating their receivers are only showing 5.1 channels in their displays,I can only assume they are martixed 6.1 tracks like the theatrical editions.

So my set from Barnes and Noble took 3 day to get from Sparks, NV to Hodgkins, IL. I'm in N.Y. so I'm still going to have to wait a few days. I didn't realize they automatically chose delivery by Oliphant for this release. Must be a B&N exclusive for the EE's.

Even though all 7 of my speakers, and sub, are hooked up.

The "SB" was lit up, but the boxes showing SBL and SBR were not. However, I had put in Wedding Crashers later that evening, and every speaker was displayed.
I believe you are decoding the audio in your DG 820. The graphical speaker display: See page 8 of your manual, bottom right, block 24. Your receiver picks up the 6.1 flag on the disc and lights up the SB icon. Not to worry, though since the rear channel audio is automatically distributed to both surround back speakers in your 7.1 system.

If you decode in your player (PCM to your 820) , your surround back icon will go off and your surround back left and right icons will be lit. Either way, there should be no difference in the quality of your audio.

Have I said how much I love the packaging on this set? These black cases look great and so does the outer case/box. Love it!

Thanks.

Can anyone else confirm disc or matrix?

As a 6.1 matrixed surround codec is in fact a 5.1 source,so it will use the two surround channels to create the extra two speakers.

If you had a true 6.1 discrete (not matrixed) surround codec, your receivers processing would again use elements from the extra rear surround channel to create the extra speaker.
I understand. So you don't think there is loss of detail when it get's matrixed?

Same question here. I should have my set in about 3 hrs. The displays on my BDP S 570 and/or my AVR will tell me if it's discrete or not. The BDP S 570 display for the TE is DTS HD MA 6.1 ES Matrix .

I haven't got to the other films yet, so can't comment other than to say thanks for the heads up!

Glad to be of service. I'm not someone who looking for errors on the Blus that I own. I truly want them to be great.

All I can say is that Fellowship is merely good. It's not great like Avatar or even The Two Towers. The scene in the beginning with Gandolf fighting the Balrog is JAW-DROPPING. I haven't felt that way since seeing it in theaters. Since the EE of Two Towers appears to be off an old master (due to the slight pillar boxing on the blu and the DVD), there's no reason why Two Towers should appear better than Fellowship.

Fellowship EE is my favorite of the trilogy.

Damn, Amazon still hasn't even shipped out my set yet.

The people involved in shipping over there should be kicked in the family jewels. This is pure BS.

So since I'm sitting at home with my leg in a cast and nothing better to do I've just started my second viewing of the EE Blu's
This time with the cast (no pun intended) commentary on.

I would assume if peoples players and receivers are saying 6.1 it's discrete,as 6.1 matrix always seems to display 5.1 on players and receivers.

Unless of course it's on the PS3.
