how freaking long are these films gonna take?!
and how much space will they take up on an ipod? 30 freaking GB's?!

i mean, chances are it would take twice as long as all three films combined to finally get these bad boys ON my ipod.

just seems like a baffling choice to be added to this set. the dvd's i could kind of understand, but not digital copies...

so. anyone use them?
No.

The saving of a movie position started with BDLive.

The code on the disc stores the movie position along with a tag to define the movie in the memory of the player.

So if you player supports BD Live it should allow it to resume.

Just watching the first Shire scene, it seems very overcast, and dim.

Was the green tint ever acknowledged by PJ or anyone responsible for putting out the EE? I've not been able to participate on the forums recently, so I'm not up to snuff.

Thanks.

I completely agree with Boyens on the changes to Faramir's character. It doesn't make much sense to me, after it's established in Fellowship (the film) that men are weak as hell, including the men of Gondor, that Faramir just decides to have nothing to do with the ring.

[Show spoiler]A couple of purely hypothetical question for people to chew on:

1. If Peter Jackson reissued the Fellowship of the Ring in black-and-white, complete with a personal statement, perhaps even an introduction with his visage saying "Hey mates, I think this new black-and-white version of Fellowship really reflects my original intentions more accurately, and this is what I wanted all along", would you choose to replace your FOTR copy?

2. If Peter Jackson and WB admit that there was indeed a mishap at the mastering lab, sincerely apologized and admitted fault, and issued a corrected version, would you acquire that one, even though you have claimed the green looks better?

I just want to get an idea of whether people are really this adamant about accepting "directors intent" as the be-all and end-all. I think Friedkin's revisionism to The French Connection is a cautionary tale of accepting "directors intent" as the gospel, but I want to hear what others have to say about it.
[Show spoiler]1) no, "original intentions" screams George Lucas! I'd watch it black and white as a special feature.

2) I'd get the replacement. I'm happy with the quality, but I want it without the very slightly annoying green.

Even if PJ said the green was intentional, but WB reissued one without, to shut up the vocal minority, I'd replace it.

George Lucas has killed "director's intent" for me. I want the movie in the best quality, in the form I remember seeing it, with the best possible A/V quality. So I'm good with OAR, but otherwise I want it the way I want it. The customer is always right!

Why baffling? It's just a download code so doesn't take up any real estate in the package. Those that want a portable copy can redeem. Those that don't care... no biggie.

The only baffling thing is that the ITunes version is from a different master than the Blu Ray.

We need a poll or something to see the overall feelings on the release. It seems people who were bothered by the tint reports notice it more, whereas people who didn't mind the tint still don't care much.

I agree that it looked different from the theatrical versions, but I always thought it had a real strong blue shift.

It's the principle of it, not laziness. I usually lift weights and shadowbox and stuff when I am watching movies anyway, but knowing the format still requires multiple discs for one movie is a bit of a disappointment.

Does it require a lot of effort to roll your car window up manually? No. But I'd still much prefer power windows and consider it an important feature.
I think complaints about them cramming the entire film onto one disc would have outweighed complaints about the movie being split onto two. higher quality = 2 discs.

So you're not going to use them... who's to say noone else is? I'll watch them while riding the metro. there is a lovely feature called pause where you can pick up where you left off. No need to bash because you have no need for them. Give your codes away if you feel so strongly against them.(and as you did)

Finally gave in and watched it and to be honest, the green tint didn't bother me.

At the end of the day it would always be an argument over hypotheticals. If we got 1 disc versions, people like me would wonder if the video quality would be even better if they were able to consistently keep the video bitrate high. Now that we have 2 discs the ones that want 1 disc (probably) believe that a lower bitrate and video quality would be worth the trade off and/or the lower bitrate trade off wouldn't be noticable. The world may never know.

I would gladly be willing to get up off my butt, do some stretching and change discs to not constantly have the former thought in the back of my mind.

The argument that bluray having higher capacity was supposed to prevent this is not valid since HD video takes up FAR more space.

Nevertheless, I think its sad that people won't buy the discs over the film being split onto 2 discs.

I might use the digital copies when I move out. I don't know when I will have a tv of my own.

I think we need a new debate started. Which is a worse reason not to buy the set:

A-Because the movies are split over two discs.
B-The bonus features are on DVDs instead of Blu-Rays (which would have the same content and the same quality).

And fit on one Blu-ray instead of 3 DVDs.

Yep, that's my only beef. Take Band of Brothers and The Pacific for example. Each BD has 2 episodes each and they could have easily put 3 episodes on each and saved a disc in each set.

The iTunes digital copies are 3.15 GB, 3.54 GB, and 3.93 GB respectively. So, 10.62 GB total.

ok guys, I bought the set, but am still not sure if I am going to keep it. Should I open it or return it to the fiery chasm from whence it came? Let's take a vote...
