Like others have mentioned, mine has the black "painted" look. Just curious.

Just preview LOTR EE

The color is a huge changes, I don't find it got green tint issue, but....I find it seems missing the yellow ...the yellow is not there. The shadow is more darker than usual as well.

Details wise is extremely clear and sharp.

Did I like the new color, hmmm....the new color is more dull and you must forgot the actual color or you may end up hate it.

Beside this, they are extreme lazy redo the main menu, it just use back the origin DVD extended menu startup, and then in a sudden a blu-ray menu pop up, it is a kind of lazyness design.

Not true. As far as the error vs intentional debate with the green tint, this could be squashed with one simple statement by PJ (and if it truly is intentional, why no response on facebook, etc....where the question has been asked?). That does not mean people will suddenly like it, but at least we could end a big part of the confusion since many of us strongly still feel this must be an error. A statement addressing the green tint specifically by PJ could end this. His silence so far on the matter does not feel very encouraging!

I would think that you would get more mileage by contacting Peter Jackson than Warner, but I listed all the ones that I know about. Maybe if enough people that have concerns voiced them to Peter Jackson, instead of on here over and over again, it might accomplish more, and alleviate some of the stress and frustration in this thread.
A noble effort, but this "Groundhog Day" thread isn't going to stop soon. These "Flying Dutchman" posters are going to keep repeating themselves over and over.

Sisyphus had it better.

42041 -- I don't have the exact timings (will try and get them for you tonight) but the image of Caras Galadhon should be fairly early on Disc 2 of FoTR.

by the fake quote it sounds like he's trying to revive the whole green tint issue... after a hundred pages I'm glad its finally died down...

This is the WB statement:

"Warner Bros Home Entertainment Group confirms that The Lord of the Rings The Motion Picture Trilogy Extended Edition Blu-ray accurately represents the intended look of each of the three features.

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring™ was remastered from the original digital production files in order to reproduce the full color imagery of the feature."

Take out the LOTR and insert any movie you want. It could be Harry Potter or Chitty-Chitty Bang Bang for all I know. There is no allusion whatsoever to color timing, tints, hue changes, contrasts, etc.

I think A BETTER statement would go something along these lines:
"We have been recently aware of growing concerns regarding the image quality of the blu-ray release of the Extended Edition of the Lord of the Rings, specifically, Fellowship of The Rings. After a close examination, and after consulting with the film's producers, we can assure the viewers that this image is exactly as the filmmakers intended..."

This, of course, if indeed it is intentional.
It's an official statement from a studio that DID offer replacements for Matrix Revolutions. I guarantee that if it DID read like what you wrote, half the people on here would STILL claim it's not real and they they didn't REALLY consult the film's producers, because they just can't accept that the film was changed. Even if PJ came flat out and said it, people still wouldn't believe it. So, really, who cares what the wording is when it'll be bashed into the ground no matter what?

Finally had the opportunity to watch all 3 films. Outstanding. After reading all the bickering about green tint all I got to say is it is vastly over-blown. Watch FOTR on a 52" Samsung LCD ISF calibrated. 95% looks killer while very, very few select scenes display a slight tint if that.

< Green smiley for you all

Outstanding, except for a few unbearably green moments in the Fellowship, they look absolutely stunning

I'd chime in that while the books were published years ago; there are a lot of people who are new to them and have questions that could easily be answered if they weren't buried within a circular tint discussion.

joliefan I'd highly recommend the set; for the most part it's simply stunning.

Here's a discussion other than the Green tint.

The resume feature that is apparently on this disc but I can't seem to get it on my player... does it only work with certain players or is mine just too old? Or is it a possiblilty that that may be fixed with a firmware update?

If I push stop while the disc is playing, and then I press play again, just like all of my other BD-J discs it makes me start from the beginning and doesn't give me the "Resume playback" option.

I have a Sony BDP S350 and a BDP S360 and its the same way on both.

Anyone know?

For those tired of talking about the technical aspects of this release (yeah, the green tint is a huge part of that... and this is the forum to talk about specific technical aspects of specific BD releases) there are plenty of places here about LotR that are free of the sometimes repetitive technical discussions. This is a good place to start:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/group.php?groupid=71

This thread, though, is the only thread here about this specific BD release, so of course it's going to be talked about here.

I don't use the resume feature really but I think that's a specific quirk involving BD-J titles and not necessarily a "defect" per se or something that will be fixed with a player-specific firmware update. I've seen lots of people complain about it, I don't think it has anything to do with your Sony players.... I think it's a BD-J thing in general.

Have you used the bookmark feature? It should do somewhat the same thing. Press the yellow button when watching it and it'll create a bookmark (assuming that's the point you want to leave off and start again.) When you start the disc again go to scene selection and you should be able to select your bookmark.

I can't speak to those particular players, but my PS3 brings up a small Menu in the middle of the screen when I put the discs back in, that asks whether I want to Resume from Last Point Played, or Start From Beginning.

I know it's specific to the disc, because it doesn't just resume instantly on it's own like some titles do.

AFAIK, you can hit the Enter button on your player to resume the playback, but the menu won't appear.

never actually tried that, don't I have to have some sort of internal memory for that though? My Sony's have memory ports but no built in memory so I didn't think it would work.

I think it should if a specific title supports bookmarking. Only one way to find out I guess (I don't have a Sony, I have an Oppo so I can't check myself.)

But of course it doen't have to be the same thing over and over, does it? Is there NOTHING technical to talk about other than the color or the contrast of FOTR?
