I for one am glad that the movies are spread across two discs each. Less compression is a good thing. I also like High Definition, it looks and sounds better. That's why I spent all that money on my HT.

How can you call yourself a cinephile and not have recreating the cinematic experience your ultimate goal?

How can you call yourself a videophile unless you find passion in the best quality for presentation?

Why would you want anything less than the same experience you get in the theater?

Well, you want less when the physical capacity of a delivery medium exists for quantity of content instead of quality.

Which is fine. You are free to have your priorities. But do not call yourself a duck if "quacking is neato and stuff, but I really prefer to moo".

Yeah, they (trolls) get me every time. I guess I'm a sucker for the bait.

I guess they figure since we're talking about LotR movies that Trolls are welcome.

Well, technically no one was intentionally "trolling". Joe commented on some specific reasons why he doesn't want to purchase the set and some replies lead to debating people's main reasons to invest in Blu-Ray. It's just a natural part of having a conversation; the subject changes. Sometimes we just go on a bit too long about these kind of things.

I watch all of my blu-rays on my 13 inch black and white TV that I bought 25 years ago (I don't have to worry about the LOTR tint issue ). I just wish I could hook it up to my Hi-Fi stereo to get some awesome sound instead of through the TV speakers .

What's the latest on the green tint on Fellowship? Is it now agreed to be directors intent?

The reason I ask is I'd like to discuss....

How many high profile directors have ever used such a technique on a film (a blanket color tint), and why do we think Mr Jackson has chosen such a seemingly unique approach?

+1

Look how much crap WB getting for putting Gettysburgh and Gods & Generals on one disc each. I know they are a bit longer than RotK but man... you can only fit sooooo much without sacrificing quality. And it doesn't bother me to get my lazy but up once every couple hours and change discs... I don't like the BD-J loading times though...

So P.O.ed they screwed up the transfer. If it was reference I would buy it but
instead we get green tint.

I was just wondering, if the green tint is that bad to some people, couldn't you just adjust your tv settings to be a bit warmer to compensate for it?

You can, but I don't want to buy the br if I have to change my settings to make it viewable. Warner should have made sure the transfer was reference

After all LOTR is epic cinema.

I have this disc and I'm extremely happy with this transfer. The green tint is just a nasty rumor, IMO.

People have stated repeatedly on here that they have adjusted their TVs to fix the green tint and it didn't effect ANY OTHER MATERIAL PRESENTED ON THE TV!!! I forget exactly which colour setting they tweaked, but it fixed the "transfer error" while NOT making everything else look unbalanced.

If anything, the presence of the green tint is actually doing everyone a favour bringing a minor TV calibration error to their attention.

I have read many intelligent posts from you sir, but I strongly disagree.

I almost forgot about this imaginary argument. It has been a while.
