I wonder: how many people here bought the Theatrical editions on Blu-ray?

Or have bought both sets?

Oh I see. That makes much more sense.

I've got both. Got the TE for a song shortly after it came out.

there are on the side of the cover (spine), each below the english title. And also on the back of the slipbox, it's double sided. one french, one english. and also on the booklet.

if bilinguals hurts you so much, maybe you don't want this. but for me, nothing beats the price

anyway, the 1 day offer for being CN$44.99 is over

Do you folk watch both of them, or tend to favour one?

I'm not trying to make any point, just asking because I recognise that I haven't actually seen the TEs since they were on at the flicks (I only ever bought the EEs on DVD, as much because I liked the packaging better as any other reason!) and I'm curious now if it would be worth comparing them. There's no rental outlet anywhere near where I live.

I've bought the EEs on Blu-ray, but it seems a bit excessive to buy the TEs as well. (Not to mention that both my shelves and my bank account are groaning a bit lately!)

I'm curious what other people - those who casually enjoy the films, rather than completists as such - might think.

Both versions have their purpose, more so after the first film. The theatrical of Two Towers and Return Of The King is more to get a reaction from people than anything. I highly recommend the theatrical of Fellowship Of The Ring.

I have the 1st and 3rd TE's on BD and the EE's, I'll pick up The Towers when I see it cheap as well (come to think of it I saw it the other day). Not sure how often I'd watch the theatricals but I do like them. Fellowship needs a remaster/re-issue though.

I paid a fiver each for the theatricals and picked the EE's up for £7 with supermarket Clubcard loyalty vouchers when it was on offer for £30.

Cheers. Yes, I know it was a 1 day offer only since I ordered it. I then cancel it after knowing about the bilingual cover. I can wait for a price drop on the US set. I'm sure we will see a similar price on the US set next black friday

I prefer the TE of ROTK by a landslide, and could go either way with FOTR depending on my mood. I do prefer the AV quality of the EE's all-around.

I'm in the same boat as you - would really like to know what the majority thinks, because I could get the individual BD TE's very cheap now (here in Finland).

I wasnt planning on buying the EEs. But I got an hst check in the mail randomly and bought it because Ive never seen the EEs.

I like the theatricals better though. My apostrophe key is broken as well..

I only watch the extended now. A trilogy like this(based on such a great literary work) is so rare, more is better IMHO. There's no shortage of people who disagree w/ me btw.

Not me. Once you've watched the EEs, the TEs just seem so lacking. There's a lot of movies out there where the extended cuts don't add squat to the story. The LotR series is definitely NOT one of them.

I agree. I bought the TE DVDs, then sold them to get the EE DVDs, then sold them to get the TE BDs, then sold them to get the EE BDs. I honestly don't see any real reason to own them both. The EE are 2 hours 3 minutes longer than the TE, not counting the credits, and I much prefer the EE. It's basically like getting an extra movie's worth of content.

Extended Editions only for this enthusiast. The theatricals just lack so much more information that supports character motivations. I find the Theatrical Editions have a lot of moments where I ask "How did he/she come to THAT decision?" It just seems to be disjointed in a number of places for me.
