You've been watching 1080p content without a 1080p display?

Goo Gone would have removed all the adhesive residue. It works wonders!

I use that, but the slip cover still became heavily scratched.

That isn't even possible. Moviefan2k4 said "HDTV" meaning not even 720p so there is no way he's watching HD. I would stop buying BD's and save my money for an HDTV immediately.

You must have long fingernails, or used a scrapper to scratch it so severely. Scratched, or not, I wouldn't have ripped it up. There was no need to get frustrated, It's just a slipcover! I could see if it was damage on the actual blu-ray case, that would be different.. Now you have no slipcover, unless you try to get another one from somewhere else.

I'm currently on a limited budget, and I first upgraded to Blu-Ray because the player was cheap. I've had it for almost two years, and I don't regret that decision. I figured that, in the long run, it was better to have a collection of films to re-experience, than to spend a lot of time saving money, only to have no HD films to view on a new TV. Besides, I'm still noticing differences on a small screen, so its not a total waste.

To each their own. We all do what we have to and I am not one to criticize anyone's decisions. I was just pointing out to another member that it's impossible for you to be watching anything in HD if your TV isn't an HDTV or HDTV Ready. All you're watching, at best, is 480P.

I have no doubt you're getting a better image as apposed to the DVD counterpart because the source material from a BD disk is much better than that of a DVD... but you are missing out on another level of image quality and if it were me, now that I've experienced HD in all it's glory, I would happily give up buying BD's in order to save for a new TV that would give me the HD content I'm paying for. Hell, even a cheap bestbuy house brand HDTV would be leaps better then what you have now.

Well for me I kinda suggest go for HTPC. It will give the best for Blu-ray and gives justice for DVD quality. HDMI connection from your VC to your HDTV and LOTR will look like awesome just like in our dreams

After 93 blu rays, including the LOTR, STAR WARS box sets. You may want to start putting the movie buying on hold and save for a HDTV..
Otherwise, you're wasting your money.

I have to agree with this. Given what BD's cost I would think an HDTV could have been had a long time ago. Everyone is different but I just don't see the point in buying BD's if you're not watching them in HD. You're essentially just over paying for DVDs.

I use a 720p 37in with HDMI inputs and the picture is remarkably better than anything I have ever seen.

Nice! So the $39.99 Costco price is a real steal

Well in that case, you have to add in the time spent driving there, the gas depleted, and also the tax...

Time and gas are non-factors in my case as Costco is 5 mins away and I was in the area anyway. Tax brought it to $44.78... still a good deal
