I wish these individual releases with the new artwork had steelbooks coming (for a reasonable price); they would look really amazing.

I agree, The Crimson King; the artwork is very beautitul, and quite evocative of the mood of the story.

We've had the same releases here in Australia, but unfortunately here the artwork is absolutely ruined by our ridiculous ratings logos:

Sometimes they make me quite annoyed.

So does any US retail brick & mortar store actually carry these, slipcovers and all, other than Barnes & Noble?

Curses. And the three extra discs - are they Blu-Rays, or are they DVDs like in the box set? And if they are Blu-Rays, are they 480 or in HD?

I'm hoping for a black Friday deal on these. Maybe $15 each.

Me too. $10 for each would be even better.

Still DVDs. All the discs are identical to the box set release.

As thegoat said, they're DVDs. And unfortunately, while the BDs that contain the films are region free, the DVDs that contain the extras are region coded.

Is that confirmed or just guess work? Warner US have had their DVDs coded for regions 1-4 in the past.

The extra features for the entire LOTR EE set will NEVER be in HD. They were ever captured at a higher resolution than 480p, therefore they will never be able to be presented better than your equipment can upscale them anyways. So, putting them on Blu-ray discs would only serve to save on discs... which, even as is now, doesn't even affect case size. So there is absolutely no reason to complain about the extra features being on DVDs. Complaining that the extras are included at all is a valid complaint though should someone really only want the extended films.

The extras would have been awesome in HD, oh well. I was thinking about getting these but I might wait until Black Friday ... or ...

Does someone want to sell or give away their UV digital copies of these extended editions?

Holding my copy of Fellowship now. Each DVD disc says "Region 1 US" along the rim.

So do the DVDs in the Ultimate Matrix Collection (to pull out one example) yet they are confirmed to be open to regions 1-4. Just because they've printed something on the disc/cover doesn't mean that is the case.

Like me

I finally decided a week or two ago that I'll grab the EEs of Two Towers and Return of the King when they can be had for $14.99 or less. I'll likely never watch the special features though.

You can check the region coding info for yourself, in the database on this website. It states, "BDs are region free, but all DVDs are locked to region 1. What a shame!"

Hey, sorry if this was touched on earlier, but are the extended edition on bluray's special features the same as the big extended edition dvds that came out right after the movies were in theaters? There are a TON of features on those sets, and Im not sure if I should double dip... I've got the theatrical release on bluray as well. Thanks to anyone who can answer this for me!

The Blu-ray EE releases contain the same extras as the DVD EE releases + one other documentary often refered to as "The Coates Documentary."

Until these go on sale I am hoping to purchase the UV digital copy codes from someone who doesn't use them.

I have never seen the extended editions. For now, UV copies will hold me until the actual BDs come down in price.

Please PM me if you have the extended edition UV digital copy codes you are not using. I can do Paypal if you are selling them.

Thanks,

Terrence

Perhaps, but I wouldn't put any money on that being the case. Until somebody tries playing them, the official statement is the best evidence available.
