Extended editions all the way. In for the full experience or not in at all. I only ever watch the extended editions now and only watch them in one go. Yes it's a huge watch but that's the point - the journey of the characters is a long one so it makes all kinds of sense for the experience of watching the films to be a complete journey too. |

Several times a year I sit and do all 3 EXTENDED EDITIONS in one sitting. 10hrs & 36mins straight is my record. Still a few minutes for improvement on that one as a couple of potential avoidable breaks occurred on that run. ![]() |

I recently saw a version of The Return of the King: Extended Edition that was "ripped from the Blu-Ray" but had subtitles for the following scenes:
1. Frodo pulls out his light that was given to him and he says something in elvish, but you see the translation instead of "speaking in elvish" 2. Aragorn's song near the end of the film when he is crowned king of Gondor has translations too. Also, the entire film was one long movie instead of two parts. |

I've just found out today that a cinema near me is running a marathon of the three EEs in the one day on December 23. (The Hobbit premieres here in Australia on December 26th.) It starts at 10:30 in the morning, and goes through to midnight (with meal breaks between films).
Tempted to do it, because I've never seen the EEs on the big screen, but it's a long time to sit! |

I was lazy to find the files on my HDD, but I've looked them up and these translations were in the version of RotK that I have. |

I'd read on the web not long ago (cause I still haven't bought this set even though I'm a huge LOTR fan) that the green tint in The Fellowship Of The Ring may have been fixed for the U.K. boxset. Is there any truth to these claims?

That's a shame, cause apart from the tint the film looks fantastic, going by the screencaps i've seen. A huge improvement over the theatrical blu-ray in terms of detail and clarity, not to mention there being no dnr or edge enhancement as well. If the tint was fixed it would look perfect, I don't think the brightness levels look that screwed up imo, maybe a bit of black crush in places but not majorly bad looking. I'll try and persuade one of my family members to get me the boxset for me for christmas, the tint isn't a dealbreaker but it would look better if it wasn't there.
