Can't wait. Passed on the theatricals, just like with DVD.

I bet by "limited," they're referring to the set coming with digital copies.

I'd really rather see the Silmarillion done in a trilogy before a remake, though.

Back to topic, I would love to just get individual movies so save on money since I already have the EEs in DVDs and would not mind to just get the movies on bluray.
No offense, but I think you're in the minority of people only wanting the EEs individually. Plus, you'll be waiting quite a while for that to happen, if ever.

They can't do the Silmarillion; WB doesn't have the rights.

Why would he be waiting quite a while? A few months maybe, but that's it. It's not like the original films never got individual packaging.

I am happy with the current LOTR box set however if these come in at a similar price point and the reviews are steller for ALL 3 movies then I will most likely buy.

I look forward to this being the must own Blu in any collection however I have a big doubt it will top the quality of Star Wars.

I think he looks the part, but have problems acting the part too.

To end this on a positive note:The cinematography is second to none.Love the photography.Just wished PJ was better with actors.

Who does? I don't particularly care if WB does it or not....

Eh? I think the problem was more in the script and writing than in Viggo's performance. I think he's a good enough actor...

I think an independent studio has the rights atm, so I very much doubt it will be made. Don't recall who for sure though.

I don't think anybody has film rights to the Silmarillian, do they? I wouldn't think Christopher Tolkien or anyone else in the Tolkien Estate would sell them. (I mean, the only reason JRR Tolkien sold LotR's rights back in the 50's was to help pay bills, and the family isn't exactly hurting for money now.)

Anyway...

I'll be getting this set, regardless of how it pans out details-wise. I held off on the TE release (the mediocre PQ settled that), but I can't wait until 2014 or whatever to own these movies in HD. I figure, I bought the movies twice (individual TE and EE releases) on DVD already and held off on the LE DVDs--even though the completionist in me really wanted those Costa Botes docs--so I'm not going to triple-dip on BD editions either. I'll probably buy the initial individual TE BDs of the Hobbit movies too, and then not buy anything else until that Ultimate Edition box set is available.

Aw, hells yeah!
I got the theatrical blu-rays when they came out, so I guess I will be selling them, and putting the money towards this.
Please, better transfer, please!

Thumbs up Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just need an official release date not worry about the PQ/AQ. It has been reported that PJ didn't want these to be release until he could do more magic with them.

Yea, I have had that baby on my 'Wish List' for awhile now(unfortunately I don't have a region free player ) and I am just waiting for the price to drop sometime. I am a huge Fincher fan and plan on owning all his movies in the future.

Patience is a virtue.

I am just wondering if I will give in and get it day one, or just wait for a big sale on BF.

One thing I'm wondering is if Peter Jackson will change the scene where it shows Bilbo found the Ring to having Martin Freeman to help bridge this with The Hobbit. I mean, one of the reasons Jackson was waiting to release them is so they could look their best and they could be exactly how he wanted...

That said, I can't wait to get my hands on this. Passed on the theatrical versions since I prefer the extended cuts, so I can't wait to get these on blu and see them in their fully glory.

If he were to do that, we just might have a new generation of fanboys whose childhoods were raped. Has George Lucas' Star Wars special editions taught you nothing?

Of that we can be certain; the next edition will probably be released with the Hobbit movies as some kind of "Middle-earth spectacular" (or whatever) edition, but that's OK, we finally get the EE's on blu. I'm glad the Costa Botes documentaries are going to be part of the package (and hopefully all of the special features will be hi-def), but I was hoping for some new material.

Don't worry, they will.

Haha that's true. But considering The Lord of the Rings may be the most rereleased series since Star Wars, who knows if Peter Jackson might decide to do his own little edits as well. I'm not saying I'm condoning it, but it's definitely a possibility that he would want it to tie better into The Hobbit. Especially with The Hobbit beginning production before this set is released...There's a chance he might film that scene early on and put in. You never know.
