I suppose most people have not realized how accommodating our brains are when it comes to colour, especially the colour white. Grab a white piece of paper, look at it and your brain tells you it's white. And yet the lighting in your room tints the white of the paper depending on the color temperature of the light source.
It's quite hard to tell what's properly (and by proper I refer to D65) white without a reference point. The now-infamous screenshot comparison of white vs. green snow is a perfect example of this. I've had access to the Extended Blu-rays (not pirated ones) for a while now and can confirm the pirated screencaps of FOTR are quite close to what the Blu-ray looks like. Despite the greenish tint, when you're viewing the movie without any external reference points it looks fine: your brain accepts the image you're watching as the reference point and adjusts your perception of color accordingly. I'm not saying green snow appears pure white, but the tint does not look out of place without a reference point telling you otherwise. |

After testing the 3 sample video rip form LOTR-EE BD. I found out:
This is exact follow the previous DVD-EE 1st release box-set color. Sample Video Link: https://forum.blu-ray.com/blu-ray-mo...ml#post4831379 Overall it looks nice and appealing to me. Love it ![]() Last edited by Andrewtst; 06-11-2011 at 11:44 AM. |

For someone who has the actual disc, can you look at The Two Towers around 45 mins?
When I looked at the rip I noticed very amateurish use of temporal denoise, there is smearing and blurring everywhere. I hope it is just on the encode and not the actual disc. Im seeing it everywhere there is a lot of smoke/grain. Edit - Never mind, I checked my Theatrical Bluray (actual disc) and it is there too. Must be deliberate. Never noticed it before. Really bad on the swamp scene. Last edited by vargo; 06-11-2011 at 12:20 PM. |

![]() On a more positive note, how is the audio Petri (or anyone else)? There should be no issues here and cant wait to hear these tracks! Is it 6.1 discrete or matrix? Thanks |

Of course I can be mistaken but the user which posted the comparison (DVD vs. BD snow) wrote "DVD vs. EE BD". So from the beginning I wasn't sure if he understood that he should compare the EE releases and not the theatrical DVD to the EE Blu-Ray... |
