Not the best shots to show the green tint, but yes its still there. Look at the flame in the shot near the bottom......you dont see the green tint?

How about more shots of Hobbiton, Bag End, sky, snow, etc......that will show the issue more easily? It would be great to get the same shots on the extended dvd up to compare with as well which will show any issues/differences.

I see no green this release is reference quality or even beyond that when looking at the latest screenshots and the sample

It's quite hard to tell what's properly (and by proper I refer to D65) white without a reference point. The now-infamous screenshot comparison of white vs. green snow is a perfect example of this. I've had access to the Extended Blu-rays (not pirated ones) for a while now and can confirm the pirated screencaps of FOTR are quite close to what the Blu-ray looks like.

Despite the greenish tint, when you're viewing the movie without any external reference points it looks fine: your brain accepts the image you're watching as the reference point and adjusts your perception of color accordingly. I'm not saying green snow appears pure white, but the tint does not look out of place without a reference point telling you otherwise.
That is correct, but thank god our brains function in that way.How horrid the colours would be in artificial lighting eh?

Now, if only FotR had always looked exactly as the new master does. Then everybody could be overjoyed at (what some perceive to be) green snow!

That is the reason I'm not too upset at the color changes, considering the resolution advantage. If the tint is consistent, the brain will dial it out. I have a pair of strongly orange-tinted snowboard goggles and after about 3 minutes of wearing them, snow looks perfectly white again until you take them off.

Now I really can't wait for this set. Just a couple of days after my birthday. I might just ask for it.

I'm hoping that the EE I'm seeing in theaters next Tuesday looks like that, colorwise.

I'm guessing they'll be playing the new Blus, especially if the films will be digitally projected.

That's a very good point Petri Teittinen.

In fact, I have been wondering about this exact thing the last couple of days myself.

However the real test for me will come when those close up shots of all those faces with blue eyes happen. (And there are a lot of blue eyes in FotR.)

Fingers crossed.

I'm trying not to look at any screenshots or otherwise, so as to wait until I have the set. It'll be at least good, if not great...

Could someone post some screencaps of scenes inside Isengard and the flight to Buckleberry Ferry from FotR...please...

as those two scenes had a very strong blue grade to them.
