Ever since Warner Bros. took control of New Line the amount of TLC that originally went into this franchise hasn't been the same. These films represent easy cash for Warner Bros. with minimal work involved. Even the extras themselves are the same exact DVDs in the original Extended Editions releases.

The reason for the incorrect coloring timing is because it was a rush job, pure and simple. It's the same reason there was color issues in the Star Wars OT DVD release. Before people start mocking those of us who want the original color scheme as Peter Jackson intended, you do realize this is a Blu Ray and film enthusiast forum, right? Not a blind fanboy accept anything to do with the franchise "gush fest." The reason many of us fell in love with this format was to experience films as they were originally designed to be seen. Peter Jackson oversaw the original EE DVDs and so that should tell you how the film should look color-wise. Obviously the Blu Ray format is going to allow for improved picture quality. But once the excitement of the improved picture quality goes away, we are still left with an improperly colored film.

I am willing to bet anyone $10 through PayPal that Peter Jackson's involvement in this release was minimal and the new color grading is the work of someone else.

I hear you! You would think of all releases they would make sure to get right, especially considering how the TE of FOTR turned out, it would be this one!

I will never agree with the condemnations here. I like the way it looks and I've seen the BD in its entirety. You get used to the LOL BAD GREEN TINT.

On the bright side, those who prefer to wear green-tinted glasses while watching films will no longer need them for FotR.

Seconded.

I can't believe people are acting like this is the first film to have a modified color grade. Have you all seen the remastered Gladiator? I noticed everyone was too busy gushing about it's detail to notice the completely changed color scheme (much more so than here). If this is a problem, it's a larger problem concerning the remastering of catalog titles at large. As it stands, though, I think this release looks gorgeous.

Oh, for Christ's sake. When you watch the scene it isn't even noticeable. The only reason you dislike it is because of the comparison. To those who are complaining, watch the entire BD then come back and continue. Your opinions will hold more weight.

Watch the BD then come back here and complain. You'll actually have credibility then.

If you are truly happy then go enjoy and ignore the rest of us who actually want a non defective transfer. I like my whites to look white when they are supposed to and my blue to look blue when it is supposed to which are just the more obvious issues with a strong green tint. Just about everything is going to be affected by this flaw even if its not always obvious like the mountain pass shot or this latest all white (supposed to be at least) screen.

The point is that this cant be how this film is meant to be seen from everything that is being discussed here....dont you want to see the film with the color the way PJ intended which is almost definitely not happening on this blu EE version of FOTR in its current state?

You are in denial Do you really think this is how the film is meant to look????

I hope I wont have to do that since this should be fixed before release. If this does not get fixed, you can bet your ass many of us including myself will be complaining up a storm about this inexcusable BS!

YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE TO GET USED TO IT........THAT IS ONE OF THE POINTS TO ALL OF THE COMPLAINING! This is arguably the biggest catalog (overall release as well IMO) blu ray release to date and its not cheap! Why should we have to "get used to" a flawed transfer?

Same thing happened to the BD of ALIENS also. Fantastic clarity with a regraded green color tint added to it.

first i watched the first one entirely. the question here is: if you like the color in this release that's fine. i and many other users here don't like it, yes it looks good enough but it doesn't represent the movie as it was shown in the theaters, which is basically what blu-ray is all about. so don't criticise those who aren't happy with the product.

The visuals and the newfound clarity are gorgeous. No one is arguing that. I have no doubt that once this is officially released, the majority of people in this forum are going to be "ooo'ing" and "ah'ing" about the improved picture quality and the improper color issues will be negated for the time being. But once the initial excitement dies down, and it will, more realistic views about the final product will develop and I have no doubt the final verdict about this release will be that the color was wrong. But like others have stated, once Peter Jackson releases his ultimate collector's set, I believe we will finally have the release most of us have been clamoring for.
