I actually thought so, too.
The extended cuts are brilliant in my opinion....no need for any changes.

As bad as I want this set I am going to hold off until I can get it for around $70-80 because that's what I paid for the DVD set several years ago. $10% is just way too much for this set IMHO.

That is my understanding. J.R.R. sold the rights to the Hobbit and LOTR a long time ago believing they could not be sucessfully adapted as movies. In some people's minds, he hasn't been proven wrong yet.

His son, Christopher, is very protective of his father's literary legacy.

In regards to the Hobbit, there was some litigation from Christopher holding up the Hobbit movie at one time. Yet the rights had to have been sold or the animated version of the Hobbit wouldn't have been made.

I got the DVD set on sale but I paid a lot for the individual DVDs I bought many years ago as I pre-ordered each one when available.

I have three individual DVDs, DVD Extended set, and now I refuse to buy the Extended Blu-ray set unless the price comes down to $75 (including taxes)
I want these but I am not desperate for it.

You can watch 5 IMAX 3D movies with $84 which is the current discounted price of LOTR

Inevitably (and, unfortunately), there will probably be a 3D converted version somewhere down the line...first to the cinemas, then on 3D discs. So, let's count 'em: this coming release, the mega-ultimate set and the future 3D version - that's 3 releases of one film! not a bad way to milk more money out of poor shire folk like us..

Moot for me, I doubt Jackson will ever add more to the Extended Versions (and I don't want a shorter directors cut). I don't like 3D, and I don't really watch extra features anymore. Also not much of a video or audiophile, so I wouldn't care if a version a slightly better transfer etc. comes out.

Point being, I wouldn't double dip on these movies on Blu Ray as this set is good enough for me.

3D? Forget it, thanks no 3D.

3D is some how not worth to get unless glassless TV is out.

Don't give me what is already available in a format I don't want anymore. Give me new stuff or at least put the old stuff in HD on blu-ray. Plus, we all know another set is coming out down the road which will presumably have new feature so why drop so much money on this rediculous set. They are just repackaging the special features like they did with the Theatrical Edition release. Just like with that release they will release these individually a few months down the road. Why not just wait?
Because some people like me prefer LOTR without hobbit set. Hobbit is hobbit and I rather it in seperate set.

The extra not clear and seems only two mentioned in DVD, maybe others will be in BD.

Do you think this set will also have the theatricals on them? Although I like the extended editions, It would be great if they also had the theatrical cuts on them.

Jackson has said that the theatricals are his preferred cut, so I doubt there will be a director's cut.

I really hope so too!! They released DVD sets that contained both versions... not doing the same here would be a shame.

I'd guess this will only be the extended versions.

December: bankruptcy...

It was a later set they came out with that did have both, not the original EE.
