It's the comparison of Gandalf at Bag End. Nothing new.

Who's to say that this isn't what Peter Jackson wanted? Maybe it's the Original EE DVD release that is flawed and not this new transfer? Only Jackson and Lesnie know what they had intended it to look like.

I downloaded them to my pc, but I can't upload them on here because they're too big, or I don't know what I'm doing.
Maybe someone else that knows what they're doing could, or you could just sign up over there. It's free, and only takes a minute.

You are right. The green tint is reportedly at the direction of Jackson and Lesnie. Mark my words. But that doesn't indicate the coloring was "wrong" for the previous releases any more than it indicates that they simply changed their mind about the color aesthetics of the film. While I do know now that Jackson/Lesnie instigated the changes, it will still be interesting to hear what they officially have to say on the subject.

Packaging for Canada is being handled by Alliance directly I believe, Warner has nothing to do with it... My guess is they will follow a similar physical design, but the artwork might be different. Won't know for sure until one surfaces.

My guess is that the only difference will be the set's heavy focus on French text. Because Alliance does that. A lot.

No the EE looks much better. Zero DNR, much more natural and film-like image. Subtle detail is better.

I think some of those have mixed up screens because I recall TTT turning to crap when Gandalf reached Theoden.

Do you really trust Knowles? It's disturbing that he has contact info for Jackson.

I should specify.
What do you think about the image of Gandalf and the others approaching Theoden at Rohan? I feel like that image is much blurrier on the EE than it is the TE, and there's far less detail there to my eyes.

Perhaps I'm wrong and the TE is lacking in ways I just don't understand?

That's one of the comparisons where I think a mix up occurred.

The shot you mention looks nearly identical in both versions. Look at the comparison of the shot of Aragorn, Gandalf, Legolas, and Gimli as they enter the Great Hall. The TE version looks like poop. The EE, while not being the best shot ever in any way, has much more consistent contrast and a much more natural image.

That's how I feel about it too.

If by natural, you mean blurry, I agree
In all seriousness, you're probably right on a technical level; I don't really view contrast in screenshots as a "consistent" thing and it's hard to judge how natural it is too. There's a lot more green that I can see in TTT as well, so how natural those are is arguable I think. As far as how it looks, I do prefer the TE version of that shot.

That being said, I prefer the EE version of every other shot, so who knows. Release day is when I'll make actual judgement calls.
