I have the TE versions, but getting the EE editions from DD. I can't believe they went back and remastered the EE versions though. Is it in response to the less than great reviews of the TE versions? Or are they giving the EE buyers a better version just because it's the EE.

These have to be from a low quality 1080p encode.

They only remastered the fellowship of the ring because many complained about the DNR that made the fellowship of the ring theatrical blu-ray inferior to the hdtv stream available on the internet in terms of picture quality and overall detail, that should never happen because blu-rays are always encoded at a far higher bitrate than hdtv streams. The master of fotr also appeared to be older then the other two film's masters and had a sort of digital old-generation master look to it. The master they used this time for fotr looks fantastic and filmlike, with much more detail and no DNR applied, the only problem IMO is the consistant strong green tint that runs throughout the whole film, which is especially noticable at the beginning in Hobbiton.

The Two Towers and The Return of the King appear to have been taken from the same master as the theatrical versions, only they have far more detail overall because far less DNR was applied this time (thank god) and they are spread over two blu-rays each, so they could be encoded with a far higher bitrate and therefore retain more of the detail and picture quality of their respective masters. From what I have seen, they look great.

Those Shire screenshots... Ugh.

So Green... So dull.

They have to admit there is a problem... And then fix it.

Until then I will be keeping my money.... Just like with the TE's.

And as you can see with the size of my collection under my SN, I buy a lot of Blu-Rays. I will not buy any LOTR Blu-Rays until they show enough respect to us consumers to finally get it right... This is ridiculous.

Ah...okay. Good thing they remastered FOTR.

Se7en is a completely different film with a completely different visual style, and it's looked green in previous home video incarnations. It is not a natural looking film by design, I think they even bleach bypassed the prints. If Fellowship of the Ring looks like Se7en, there's a big problem

Can people please stop posting screencaps from that crappy pirated rip? It looks like crap compared to the blu-ray captures. I think there's enough FUD swirling about these blu-rays as it is...

Does anyone that's posting screencaps actually own the original manufactured blu-ray set, or are all of these from the mystery P2P file download? If you do own the real deal, how about some nice pics of them laid out on your table.

If Peter Jackson and Andrew Lesnie realized that there was a problem, do you really think that they would come out and say "Warner Bros. screwed up our movie"? No, they would quietly go through the proper channels to try to figure out what went wrong, and correct it, if possible. They would never bash Warner publicly(I wouldn't think).

If I stare at a cucumber or watermelon long enough, will it eventually turn white? I don't think so, unless maybe after it starts to rot.

end of rant.

I believe very few people actually have legit, WB released discs in their hands, and I don't believe any of them have posted screencaps at this point (at least, from BR.com members who've got the set already, can't comment about pics coming form AVS)

The composite shots are the ones that are going to show the greatest improvement in detail. For example:

There you can find a comparison between the horrible LOTR1 "theatrical cut" Blu-ray and the upcoming equally horrible "extended cut" Blu-Ray. I already regret having bought the theatricals cuts and will surely not make the same mistake twice. Besides, I already own the long cut DVDs with all the special features included with the new set.

I have no idea what they are thinking releasing the movies like that!
I know the movies havenīt aged well as they are... I donīt need bad video quality on top of it.

Here's a video comparison from a guy in the AVS-Forum. If there hadn't been the comparison, i hadn't notice that.

My gf, who has no knowledge of anything technical whatsoever when it comes to Blu-ray PQ, says, "He's not Gandalf the Green, he's Gandalf the Grey."

That being said, there are some elements of the EE transfer that I really like. I kind of prefer the contrast levels; they don't bother me a lot. The green is a little off-putting, but I'm not sure I'd notice it without that A/B comparison. The green is certainly there and it could definitely be considered a flaw though. I think we can all agree on that now.

I just want to know what PJ and Lesnie think, especially since the newest rumour on this thread was that they approved every change and actually gave very specific input to WB on the new colour timing.

Who knows?

i really think, from this point on until we the screenshots are coming from legit reviewers we should quit posting them.

There have been about 5 different sets of screenshots being posted, all of them different. All of them with their pros and all with their cons.

No one knows which is true and accurate anymore. It adds nothing to the discussion, because at least 80% of them are incorrect, possibly 100% of them.

I'm looking at the color shifts between the Caps-a-holic comparisons for TTT to try to determine which are likely switched. So far, these are the ones I think might have been switched: #1, #3, #7, and #8(not certain)

There are a couple which I couldn't tell: #5, #6

Caps-A-Holic do a good job, just make sure that you select the png files rather than the compressed jpegs. That being said, screenshots cannot depict what it is like to watch these films in motion. I for one am glad that they chose to go with AVC over VC-1 for this release.
