See, I disagree on this point. The Extended Cuts are too long (particularly RotK) to watch continuously from beginning to end. I actually LIKE having the movies split on 2 discs, because it creates an intermission point for you to take a break.

For me personally, I watch the EE's as a 6-parter, turning three really long films (in either version) into six films of reasonable length. But that's just me. Still, I am actually hoping the Blu-Ray set retains the same 2-disc split.

I don't really care, as long as the transfer doesn't suffer. I mean, you could always pause the movie any time you want. But if putting them on one disc hurts the quality even 0.001%, I'd rather have them on two.

By the way, I like to watch it as a two parter; Fellowship/1st disc of TT, then the next day, 2nd disc of TT/Return of the King. It's only 5hr7min, and 5hr50min.

I'll bet we could get a decent presentation if they leave BD-Live and other bandwidth sapping measures off. Doubt commentary tracks are that significant, but definitely no PiP and the like.

apparently in the Digital Bits thread Bill Hunt and Jeff Kleist are reporting that it IS on 1 disc apiece. Honestly, I don't care whether its one disc or two. I'm just excited to finally get to see these three movies in glorious glorious HD

while i doubt the answer would be yes, i wonder if the ee would have better pq than the theatrical one. that being said, i never saw the bluray theatrical one.was sticking to my ee dvd boxset until this good news came.i read some complain about fotr, wonder if they would *fix* it. then again its true it was the first movie and the transfer was maybe already good. i cant say , i havent seen em.

Same, I'm not anal about A/V quality at all really beyond preferring HD to SD.

At the same time, I don't mind getting up to change discs. I'd most likely have to pee once in the middle of these long EEs anyway (don't think I've ever got through any of them without getting up at least once--even the theatricals in theater were tough!).

So I'm fine if it's on two discs for A/V quality reasons as well.

I want two discs. If it's not two discs, I find it hard to believe that there will be anything that will make it look a whole lot better than an upscaled EE DVD. Everybody seems to think 50GB is a ton of space, but it's really not for HD video and audio.

But thats the thing, many many people give RotK a really good review in the PQ dept on the TE BD, it is 3 hrs 20 mins I think, and only takes up like 37 or 38 GB of space, so they could fit another 50 mins into a 50 GB disc and have the PQ still look stellar... not much room for ANYTHING else tho... again I don't care I'm just saying that people who say the quality is gonna be crap I really don't think so.

Really? Marginalized PQ sounds like the perfect excuse to correct the issue for the already planned Ultimate Edition - with FOTR Gollum replaced with Serkis Gollum. Come on, you know it's coming.

You seriously think Jackson is going to let it go that Gollum in FOTR looks nothing like Gollum in the resulting films?

Come on, man - you know they're going to fix that. Buy the EE's now, because Jackson is indeed going to go Lucas on the films for the UE's.

The packaging is amazing. I just hope WB/NL does NOT use that ugly ass, cheap looking, black and white disc art.
