I just cancelled my pre-order at Amazon seeing as apparently BB is supposed to have a smokin deal on the disc set on release day. After thinking about it - $80++ bucks is a LOT for three films and I dont think I want to pay what amounts to almost $30 dollars a movie. Much of the extra content has already been viewed by us many times. I was hoping for a more bare-bones release of just the three flicks. No biggy - I can always re-order if I have to.

I've had the discs for more than two weeks, and compared the initial set of pirated screenshots to them.

And yet you've never actually taken any pictures of these discs, nor of the packaging....

Quite simply because I place a higher value on my job than on the opinions of some anonymous forumites. Besides, I've never claimed to have the retail box nor retail discs. My discs have a replication facility's logo on them.

Which site is best for uploading pictures ?

PS : for the ones that want a particular screenshot specify also the movie :P i forgot to tell that.

For Petri Teittinen: I watch FOTR in parallel for finding the picture quality differences and i observed that the TE is a little brighter and has warmer colors but the EE is not that bad as the screenshots. In a few hours i will put some screenshots. I cannot make screenshots of TE because that weren't my discs and i gave them back to the owner. Have you had the movie in your hands ?

Looking forward to your pics
if the BD is like the theatrical EE release from yesterday were all said they were very impressed by it and had the message by PJ saying he approved it. I can't see why anyone would complain over this release anymore IMO.

2 reviewers who have seen the BD both said they were very impressed by the PQ and Nicanor says the same i think this will turn out just right

Does your Blu-ray (the following scene) look as underexposed
as this screenshot? >>>

I grabbed that same frame off my disc and opened the resulting PNG in Photoshop. This is what PS says of it:

Of course the BD EE will be more detailed than the DVD EE, but the color is just as vital - and I thought Jackson had it right on the DVD version. The contrast in color helped to distinguish the "desirable" Middle-earth locations such as Hobbiton - with a yellowish, sunshine-like haze, from the darker areas such as Moria, Isengard, and Mordor. Rivendell had an intentional orange bias, indicating this period was the "autumn" of the Elves existence in Middle-earth. In addition to loss of shadow-detail, it appears that all scenes have been generically shaded green, for whatever reason, and the color-contrast aspect of the movie has been minimized. Mr. Hunt only hastily addresses the color issue, almost seeming to avoid it. We'll know for sure soon; this is going to be a long two weeks.
Cautious optimism is a great way to put it Bob and I am with you there. Ultimately the final judgement on this set needs to be with each individuals own eyes and in their own HTs. Having said that, there are a couple reviews I am very much looking forward to the main one being Ken's since his TE review was the best out there by far IMO. We will see.....

...so it is underexposed. I wonder why they chose to do that...makes no sense
to me.

...I checked the histogram in PS because I knew it was underexposed.
It's just a good tool to compare the amount of underexposure.

Another weird thing: I don't care. I was asked to check the histogram for one particular frame on the disc and I did that. The End.

Thank you. Of course you run the risk of people like kingkong650 criticizing you for accepting "any old rubbish you're given and then thank the studios for the priviledge." And also for being a "rabid studio fanboy or at the very worst, a shill."

So we must take your word for it.

Now that Digitalbits has reviewed this release, where are all the criticisms of Bill Hunt being a shill because he wasn't as negative as others here were about the TEs? Since he seems to think the EEs are excellent, he MUST be wrong.
