I never said any such thing at AVS forum. Please retract.

As for Bill Hunts comments, I misremembered and gladly stand corrected. I still believe he does not have a very critical eye.

Not just Bill anymore Robert Harris has also confirmed the PQ to be excellent

2nd reviewer saying the EE looks amazing. And also confirms the youtube video posted of Gandalf at Bilbo's door does not look so green as the youtube video.

Reviewer Robert Harris just wrote this on the hometheaterforum thread:

[In reply to someone posting this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vwcm-73kZE8]

To my eye, there may be a point or two toward cyan-blue, but nothing like what I'm seeing in the youtube example. Skies are generally a pleasant blue, flesh tones, even for non-humans are normal, greens are strong. I presume they're not in Kansas anymore.

Detail is superb, recognizing the fact that we're dealing with 2k.

I'm seeing no problems whatsoever. A beautiful and satisfying image.

Projected via a JVC RS50 recently tuned by my go-to expert Kevin Miller, on a Stewart white 1.3.

Ralph Potts - a very good reviewer at another site - has also viewed the discs and said there is nothing to worry about.

I have to assume this was not directed at me, since I haven't commented negatively on EE image quality. Quite the opposite, in fact.

Just went to see The Extended Version Of The Fellowship Of The Ring Last Night..Amazing...This was the first time I had ever seen the Extended Version (and never seen extended for Two Towers of Return Of The King Either)...I never got the chance to see them originally in theaters, it was really an incredible (and incredibly long LOL) theater experience. Its amazing how even ten years later, not much that has been released can match such an experience.

BTW would it seem pricy and irresponsible money-wise to keep my theatrical blu ray AND buy the new extended versions? While the extended version seems to be the better film version, I think the theatrical version's may have a bit better pacing.

He posted a photograph(!) of his monitor with powerdvd playing the EE on one side and someone elses screengrab on the other.

So personally I am not interested in his opinion (regarding the colour issue), it doesnt seem like he has any technical knowledge.

So here are my results.
Some scenes i didn't watch earlier so now after all this research i can say that the film HAS some green BUT NOT the entire movie. Some scenes have the green appearance but others have yellowish or bluish. In other words are scenes and scenes. The colors are adapted to the situation. So no worry.
If you make a comparison of TE and EE the incriminated scenes are greener, but as i said the green is only in some scenes. The TE was to bright and in some places the colors were washed. In this case are not.
So some screenshots are true but others are not. Also only the bad examples were given and is not specified that the rest of the film is good apart from some isolated cases.
Also if you watch the movie alone and not in parallel with TE you will not spot the differences.

Take a look for yourself:

I'll admit to having a bias against Bill Hunt, one thing I just can't stand is someone with an inflated ego, and his sense of self importance is one of the most inflated I've ever seen. And I will criticize his review because he obviously only spent an hour or two looking the films before making his judgment and posting his "review". In his My Two Cents column he posted that the EE BD showed up at his door in the morning, and he posted his "review" by mid afternoon. You can't watch 12+ hours of movies between mid morning and mid afternoon. He obviously skipped from scene to scene, perhaps taking notes, before deciding "yep, looks good, looks good". His mentioning of PJ approving a change in color timing without providing a single word of comment or analysis on the result is further proof of his lack of thoroughly watching the entire film. It's a shameless plug for page views, to have the first "review" up for EE Blu-ray.

I don't have a pre-order in, I think the price is ridiculous, and I'm waiting until I see a detailed, professional review here, and elsewhere.

Considering his spirited defense of the first edition of FOTR, I think it's about a year and a few hundred posts too late for that

RAH's review basically suggests what I suspect: there's a color cast, but in practice it's not bothersome.

Upon first glance, and as expected, the HD presentation quality of Gladiator isn't as bad as some online would have you believe. Color and contrast are fine at all times. The problem is with the level of detail. The vast majority of the film has a slightly digital-looking quality to it, and there's clear edge-enhancement "haloing" visible. The extended edition scenes, however, look fine - no halos, no digital patina - they're very natural looking. If the whole film looked like the extended scenes, we wouldn't be having this conversation. What it looks like to me (though it's impossible to be sure, obviously), is that someone at Universal (keep in mind, it's Universal that controls the Gladiator assets for DreamWorks - not Paramount), decided to reuse the digital master of older, sub-par HD transfer. Likely it was state of the art for its day, but obviously it's a far cry from the quality of new HD transfers done today. One of the biggest problems is that until fairly recently, video mastering engineers were still applying edge-enhancement to their digital masters knowing that they were going to be used ultimately for standard-definition DVD release, and also analog VHS and laserdisc. It took the mastering community a long time to break the habit. In this Gladiator transfer, you can see edge-enhancement in the image. It's also clear that the master has been digitally-filtered to reduce the haloing and other artifacts - the signs of DNR are not hard to miss. That's in contrast to the extended edition scenes, which were transferred in HD more recently and so look much better. They're still not quite up to the latest standards, but they look far superior to the rest of the film and there's no edge-enhancement or obvious filtering visible. The footage simply looks natural - as it should. There's been some talk of DNR being so excessive that, for example, arrows and fireballs disappear from one frame to the next. This IS an issue, but the fact is that when you watch the image in full motion it's not something you really notice. The arrow or fireball is highly visible in one frame, less so in the next, more so in the third, etc. You still detect the object in motion, so you don't go, "Oh my god, that fireball just disappeared!" DNR is a problem, but it's not as serious as the overall lack of quality of the master itself. The overall image just looks generally too digital and lacking in fine detail. Audio-wise, the DTS-HD MA track is excellent - the soundstage is big and wide, the clarity and bass are excellent, panning is smooth and natural. The sound is as good as you'd hope and expect.
Don't go spreading lies about people and saying that they said things that they didnt. NOTHING in there says that it looks or even comes close to implying that it looks "splendid"

Do you trust your good friends to give perfectly honest critique of something you did? I don't, and I don't trust an industry insider with his name on the line to give unbiased reviews.
I see nothing in that review that doesn't trash it. If you call it suspect that he didn't go on a Rush Limbaugh-type rant then thats a YOU problem. Not once did he give ANY praise to the video quality.

If you actually READ the review you would see that he suggests that Paramount/Universal strike up a new HD master.
