On my two laptop screens with low quality LCD panels, the green cast is very subtle (and looks more cyan). On my Samsung LCD TV and on my iPhone 4, it's decidedly greenish compared to the white background of the page. Once again, this does not mean that it will appear greenish when viewing the movie without a white reference. But if these discs are produced incorrectly, I'd like to know before exchange programs and all that. Last edited by 42041; 06-15-2011 at 04:02 PM. |

The image you are so excited to see with white snow is not from the FOTR... This one from Nicanor is http://www.imagebam.com/image/dd344c136706458 Blue Snow... Sorry to burst your bubble. |

These Extended Edition blu-rays look worse than the dvd. Pixilation, DNR, interlaced looking in the final two hours of Return Of the King. Worst release of the year. I'm going to sell these Extended blu-rays for $5 each.
Extended DVD Video Quality: 3.5/5 Theatrical blu-ray Video Quality: 4/5 Extended blu-ray Video Quality: 2/5 And im just kidding. I didn't buy the Extended blu-ray versions yet. Did anyone get scared? ![]() |

So.
The TE has a more red layer and the EE has SOME scenes with a green layer. As i said .. no need to worry. When you will watch the movie you will not notice the colors but the details ![]() In a couple of minutes i will post to youtube the same sample with Gandalf and Bilbo from my discs. |

Let's take the monitor completely out of the mix: the RGB channel values of the snow are about 168 red, 180 green, and 158 blue. It's entirely possible that some monitors cannot render these shades accurately, but there's definitely a green cast there.

neither screenshot shows snow that is actually neutral white.
Snow isn't white either, to be technical it's colorless, it's a reflective surface. Which means on some occasions it can reflect all light equally and appear to be a neutral white while in other situations it can appear to be tinted. |

Anyway, the more I see of this the more it looks like the color timing is less of an issue than it originally appeared to be. In certain scenes it's overbearing but it doesn't seem to be too heavy throughout the movie. It's way, way less of an issue that the PQ problems were in the Theatrical release. I guess I'll know when I watch it. I do wish they had made certains portions less green though. I hate that trend. Last edited by Stinky-Dinkins; 06-15-2011 at 04:30 PM. |

Sure, when he says things like "the HD image quality for this film [Fellowhsip] is vastly improved from the Theatrical Blu-ray", you can't determine that from just scanning through a few scenes, you need to watch it in its entirety. How do dark scenes hold up? Any black crush? And especially with the color timing changed you need to watch everything - does the previous blue sky now look teal in some scenes? How about the snowy scenes, is the snow still snowy white, or does it looks bit gray now? You only need to watch American Graffiti to see how major fluctuations in quality can occur from scene to scene.
